Job Title:Head ofProjectFundraising

Location:Home based or at Butterfly Conservation’s Head Office at East Lulworth, Dorset

Salary:£31,244 - £37,201 pa (Grade E) pro rata plus 5% pension contribution

Background

This is an exciting opportunity to make a big difference to a dynamic and growing conservation charity in a leadership role. Heading our Project Fundraising Team, you will raise income to secure the future of our vital conservation work to help save threatened butterflies and moths.

The charity has ambitious plans to expand its conservation activities but substantial core and project funding is required to help realise both its current and future programmes.

Job Purpose:

  • To lead and deliver Butterfly Conservation’s (BC) project fundraising work and achieve fundraising targets from a variety of external sources
  • To line manage the Project Fundraising team (currently 4p/t staff)

Specific tasks

  1. Develop and implement a comprehensive Project Fundraising Development Plan and contribute to the organisation’s overall Fundraising Strategy.
  2. Draw up and submit high quality funding applications to a variety of prospective funders to meet the requirements of specific conservation projects and BC’s core funding needs.
  3. Increase project funding from a variety of sources in line with set fundraising targets.
  4. Draw up and manage the Project Fundraising budget.
  5. Line manage the Project Fundraising team (currently 4p/t staff) and ensure they achieve their individual targets.
  6. Ensure BC’s approach to Project Fundraising follows ‘best practice’ in line with guidelines issued by the Institute of Fundraising.
  7. Ensure good communication between the Project Fundraising team, the Supporter team and BC’s other staff and volunteers, and with external partners.
  8. Ensure the Project Fundraising team supports and encourages volunteers to contribute towards income targets.
  9. Any other duties relevant to the post as agreed with your line manager

Technical/specialist skills

  1. Substantial experience and proven ability in fundraising from some or all of the following funders: Trusts, Lottery, Landfill Communities Fund, government agencies, statutory sources, corporates and business.
  2. Proven ability to meet fundraising targets.
  3. Evidence of working and thinking at a strategic level.
  4. Ability to plan and implement fundraising strategies and development plans to strict deadlines.
  5. Experience of managing budgets and reports.
  6. Good line management and interpersonal skills.
  7. Proven ability to develop partnerships and projects.
  8. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  9. Good organisational skills
  10. Knowledge of main computer software programmes (including fundraising software).

Budget Responsibilities

1.Responsible for drawing up and managing the Project Fundraising budget.

2. Experience of preparing complex project budgets for funding applications

Line Management/Contractor Responsibility

  1. Ensure effective line management of the Project Fundraising team (currently 4 staff) and volunteer fundraisers.
  2. Responsible for contractors delivering fundraising work.

Dealing with Volunteers/Managing External Partners and others

  1. Act as the main contact for Project Fundraising work with external partners and organisations.
  2. Work with our network of Branches throughout the UK to support volunteers and increase volunteer capacity to help deliver fundraising plans.
  3. Work closely with staff at Head Office and Regional Offices to ensure that BC’s fundraising work is integrated well across the organisation.

Decision making and Society Policy

  1. Draw up and lead the implementation of a comprehensive Project Fundraising Development Plan aimed at maximising income to implement BC’s ambitious 2020 Vision (Strategy Plan).
  2. Produce regular summaries of Project Fundraising activity for Trustees and the Senior Management Team.
  3. Contribute to the development and implementation of BC’s other strategies and Business Plan.

Other

  1. Any other duties relevant to the post as agreed with your line manager.

The post holder would be expected to attend regular meetings at BC Head Office in Dorset, and with other Project Fundraising staff. The postholder would also be expected to attend occasional meetings of BC Branches and other BC national meetings, including some travel within the UK.

This post may involve occasional weekend or evening working for which time of in lieu will be granted

Note: This post is subject to the satisfactory completion of six-month probationary period.

Salary:£31,244 - £37,201 pa(GradeE) for a suitably qualified and experienced person. Salaries are reviewed annually in April.

Pension:Butterfly Conservation will pay a sum equivalent to 5% of your salary into the Society’s Stakeholder Pension Scheme with Aviva.

Probationary Period:This post is subject to a six-month probationary period.

Duration:Established post

HoursFull or part-time considered for the right applicant. Working will be flexible and may include some evening and weekend work. Time-off-in-lieu will be allowed for all overtime worked.

Annual Leave:The annual leave entitlement for the first full year of full-time employment is 23 days per annum plus statutory public holidays.
