JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Grant Writer Title of Supervisor: CEO
Department: Financial Services Status: Exempt
Uniform: Required to wear appropriate business attire and name badge.
Pay Grade: 24
- General Functions
- Facilitates, reviews, and edits grant proposals; conducts library and electronic research; compiles data; composes letters; maintains confidential files; inputs and retrieves data via computer.
- Works closely with other management staff in developing and transforming ideas into grant proposals.
- Identifies resources needed for project.
- Identify agencies and community organizations relevant to grant projects. May solicit their support, input, and participation.
- Prepare graphics for grant applications.
- Write and prepare final grant application for submission to state and federal sources. Ensures adherence to all guidelines and deadlines.
- Provides staff training in the grant acquisition process.
- Assists staff in the technical preparation of grant proposals, including coordinating organizational meetings for grant projects, facilitating meetings with internal and external partners, and maintaining all aspects of an internal customer grant support system.
- Assist in the development and monitoring of budget for all grant project-related activities and expenditures.
- Develops forms for use by staff grant seekers to ensure institutional support of their projects.
- Conducts research on potential funding sources.
- Completes an activity report and an annual summative report.
- Assists customers in person, by mail and on the telephone.
- Ability to work well under pressure and within strict deadlines.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education, Training, and Skills
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in the field of English, Journalism, Communications, or related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Basic computer and data entry skills.
- Experience and Knowledge
- Minimum of three years experience in writing and editing documents, preferably in a health care setting.
- Responsible to participate in mandatory inservices as stipulated by the department and/or SCHC.
- Knowledge and application of generally accepted grant writing practices required.
- Must have ability to handle confidential information on a need-to-know basis as defined by SCHC.
- Initiative and Judgment
- Requires the ability to work without direct supervision. The work is in a field where only general methods or policies are defined and where the making of decisions involves the use of considerable ingenuity, initiative, and judgment.
- Initiates and acknowledges the need to develop, revise, update and change all applicable policies and procedures to CEO.
- Working Conditions and Environment
- Required to communicate verbally with physicians, patients, families, caregivers and the Healthcare Team.
- Successful performance of the essential functions of the position requires the following physical abilities:
- Required to be able to type proficiently, write legibly and to read printed or handwritten materials.
- Needs to communicate and respond effectively.
- Occasionally may need to crouch, kneel, stoop or bend.
- May need to assist with moving or lifting >10 pounds
- Requires visual acuity to perform tasks requiring close vision and ability to adjust focus.
