BACKGROUND

The Spirit of 2012 Trust is a new Trust established with £40 million from the Big Lottery Fund derived from the sale of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Village. It will harness the potential of major national and local events across the UK to: inspire the next generation to take part in sport, arts and cultural activities; and to build on the success of the London 2012 Paralympic Games to challenge negative perceptions of disabled people; and, create opportunities for people to come together to celebrate shared moments through events, volunteering and community action.

The Trust is developing a theory of change and associated reporting framework to ensure that we are purposeful and effective in achieving our mission of inspiring future generations across the whole of the UK. In doing so we aim to become a thought leader in the uses of arts, heritage and sport to inspire, motivate and engage people and enrich the fabric of community life.

JOB PURPOSE

The Governance & Learning Manager will lead on providing an excellent Governance function for the Spirit of 2012 Board of Trustees and its sub committees; providing strategic support to a high profile board that meets quarterly. The Trustees are also our Ambassadors, representing the charity at events and in press announcements. This role will include the management of an Apprentice who will provide administrative support to the Executive Team, and diary management for the Chief Executive.

The post holder will also work with the Director of Policy and Learning and Programme Teams to contribute to the effective monitoring and evaluation of the impact of Spirit of 2012 initiatives, designed to deliver measurable outcomes and real change for communities across the UK.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Governance & Learning Manager will be responsible for:

  • Providing strategic support to the Spirit of 2012 Board of Trustees and its sub committees:
  • Developing effective and efficient systems for all aspects of Trustee Board and Committee meeting management;
  • Ensuring that actions and decisions from each Board meeting are followed up in a timely way;
  • Proactively commissioning, securing, collating and presenting quantitative and qualitative programme reports for Trustees and senior staff;
  • Maintaining all Board resources and programme data on a web-based platform for access by Trustees and staff.
  • Operational management of the establishment and activities of and learning from a Youth Advisory Group;
  • Supporting the Policy & Research Director in developing, managing and reporting against the Trust’s Theory of Change model and Monitoring and Evaluation Framework;
  • working with an identified consultant to develop a robust and innovative theory of change against which all Spirit of 2012 Trust programmes will report and be evaluated;
  • contributing to the development of a robust measurement framework that will allow the Trust to measure impact and tell the story of its investments
  • working with programme managers across the UK to collate, analyse and disseminate impact measures
  • Liaising with the Communications Team to provide programme collateral to support their activities;
  • Line manage the Office Assistant, which will be offered as an Apprenticeship on an annual basis;
  • Manage the Diary of the Chief Executive, providing briefing and other support, as appropriate.
