Job Title: Fitness Supervisor

Reports To: Fitness Manager

Responsible For: Fitness and Casual Assistants

1. JOB PURPOSE AND MAIN AIMS

a)To assist the Health & Fitness Manager and the Head of Health & Fitness in the development of the adult fitness activities and the Active Fitness Brand at Circadian Trust.

b)To assist the Health & Fitness manager in ensuring the planning and delivery of the group exercise program.

c)To help maintain a high standard of service within the Fitness facilities by assisting in co-ordinating the work of the Fitness Assistants and the Group Exercise Instructors.

2. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

a)To Assist the Health & Fitness Manager in the management of all Fitness staff. This will include (but is not limited to):-

  • Training & Development.
  • Work Allocation.
  • Staffing structure.

b)To be able to assist in the delivery of systems of work to ensure:

  • Continual improvement to the Active Fitness service standards.
  • Quality services and products are delivered.
  • Circadian Trust’s Human Resources Policies and Procedures are being followed.
  • Circadian Trust’s Health legislative Health & Safety requirements are enforced.
  • Circadian Trust’s financial regulations and procedures are being followed.

c) To Assist the Health & Fitness Manager in the development of the Active Fitness service strategy, taking account of industry trends, the local market and new industry developments leading to:

  • Active Fitness service plan improvement.
  • Service standard improvement.
  • Increased retention.
  • Staff development.

d)To ensure the Health & Safety of the customers by continually checking and reviewing the Health & Safety checklists, briefing and training staff on the site emergency action plan and feeding back information to the Health & Fitness Manager to assist in the update and improvement of risk assessments.

e)To ensure the Active Fitness service plan for Circadian Trust is being delivered to agreed standards.

f)Assist the Health & Fitness by compiling monthly statistical information and attendance reports.

g)To assist the Health & Fitness Manager to ensure the profitability of the aerobics by helping compiling session revenue and attendance reports and discussing appropriate corrective action with the Health & Fitness Manager.

h)Ensure that agreed staffing levels are implemented and maintained to ensure the safe operation of the Fitness facilities within the Leisure Centre.

i)Maintain high cleanliness standards by ensuring agreed cleaning checklists are followed.

j)Ensure the Fitness team members are courteous to all customers and that they meet Circadian Trust’s uniform presentation standards.

And any other duties commensurate with the grade and falling within the scope of the post, as requested by Management. Duties may change over time and you will be expected to co-operate where such changes are reasonable.

3. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE (SELECTION CRITERIA)

Essential Criteria

a)Relevant experience of working in a health and fitness environment.

b)A recognised fitness qualification (NVQ, RVQ or industry recognised award or equivalent).

c)To show an ability to Motivate a team.

d)Knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation.

e)Excellent customer care and verbal communication skills.

f)Knowledge of business IT applications (i.e. Word/Excel).

Desirable Criteria

a)Current First Aid Certificate.

b)Relevant fitness instructor qualifications.

c)Experience of designing and implementing effective and safe working practices.

d)Knowledge of leading a team.

4. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND/OR STRAIN

a)May be required to aid with the setting up of equipment which may involve some manual handling.

b)May be required to take deliveries, which may involve some manual handling.

c)The post holder will be required to show users how to use gym equipment

5. SPECIAL NOTES OR CONDITIONS

a)The post holder will be required to work on a shift basis, working week days, evenings and weekends.

b)The post holder will be required to wear a uniform at all times whilst on duty.

c)The post holder may be required to provide cover for colleagues from time to time.

d)The post holder will be required to undergo regular training.

e)The post holder may be required to work at any of the sites
