OUTLINE OF POST

To provide support to the Head of Estates in preserving the good condition and infrastructure of the College and ensure that facilities are safe and well functioning.To ensure College accommodation is problem-free and safe forlearners and employees to work under the best conditions

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Plan and co-ordinate all installations and small refurbishment works, classroom moves and liaise closely with outsourced/in-house portering staff for commercial events.
  1. To assist in the management of the procurement and subsequent performance monitoring of external supply contracts to ensure value for money is attained for the College at all times.
  1. Manage the upkeep of equipment and plant and compliance with health and safety standards.
  1. Carry out inspections on buildings structures, determine the need for repairs and lifecycle replacements, arrange maintenance and assist in the development of the planned maintenance program.
  1. Supervise all staff under the Facilities Supervisor direction as well as external contractors ensuring works are completed to a high standard and in a timely fashion.
  1. To assist with the management of the College’s statutory obligations e.g. Water Monitoring, Asbestos Management, Fire Risk Assessment, contractor management etc.
  1. Assist the Head of Estates and Health & Safety Manager to ensure the College is compliant in terms of all statutory Health and Safety responsibilities and implement all required and associated policies and procedures.
  1. Ensure issues affecting the student experience are dealt with promptly and that the maintenance team are ensuring the highest standards of centre presentation day to day.
  1. Allocate office space according to each departments needs and arrange classroom moves along with close liaison with the portering team and assist in the management of the security team.
  1. Be able to work as part of a team but also have the skills to work without close supervision and deliver.
  1. Implement and ensure the effectiveness of the College policies, procedures and practices and assist with the risk management process.
  1. To add support to the Head of Estates for the maintenance and improvements within College buildings, grounds and all other services for example electricity, gas, water, heating etc.
  1. Liaise closely with sub-contractors and carry out the necessary compliance checks and ensure site safety at all times through inductions and checks.
  1. Ensure that building services are in good order with a revised planned maintenance program and ensure all statutory inspections and maintenance is carried out.
  1. To assist with the survey, planning and preparation for the improvement of the College estate to meet the changing requirements of the curriculum.
  1. To assist with and carry out risk assessments on a college wide basis with particular reference to communal areas, building fabric and grounds.
  1. Assist with the development of procedures to cope with emergencies, including out of hours demands and maintain relevant parts of the College Disaster Recovery Plan.
  1. Assist with the preparation, issue and assessment of tenders for major projects of work, supervise installation works and complete and snag off the resulting contracts to specified quality.
  1. Assist in the preparation and implementation of projects to improve energy efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint within the College buildings and negotiate with utility providers to secure supplies which minimise the unit costs of all energy purchased and develop a sustainable environment.

  1. To implementation the College’s Performance Development Review Procedures, participating in the College’s staff development and training schemes and identifying and providing training and development for staff to meet the requirements of their jobs.

  1. Demonstrable experience of delivering a customer focused approach to Estate service delivery
  1. Proven ability to demonstrate an effective management style that reflects an understanding of managing people, their personal development and welfare against completing demands
