Job Title:Domestic Assistant

Responsible to:Domestic Bursar and Facilities Manager

Hours of Work:25 per week (5 hours per day Monday-Friday)

Salary:£9,807 pa

SCOPE AND PURPOSE:

St Edmund’s is one of Cambridge’s friendliest Colleges with a close knit community of 50 Fellows, 50 staff and 450 mature and graduate students from over 70 countries.

The prime duty of this post is to clean a specific set of rooms and public areas on a weekly basis for students, staff and Fellows. You will be directly responsible to the Facilities Manager who is charged with the training and supervision of Domestic Assistants to ensure that the residential accommodation is consistently maintained to the standard required by the College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. The cleaning of a specific set of study bedrooms and offices on a weekly basis for students, staff and Fellows, and on a daily basis during the conference period.
  1. Daily cleaning (Monday–Friday) of public rooms, i.e. Chapel, Senior Combination Room, the White Cottage and Benet House and all College guest rooms.
  1. To assist in the spring cleaning of rooms as the students go down.
  1. The making and changing of beds during the conference period as and when required.
  1. Occasional weekend work during the conference period.
  1. Bringing to the attention of the Facilities Manager any unreasonable behaviour by the residents of your area of responsibility so that necessary action can be taken. This would include any continued untidiness or disrespect to the furniture and fittings.
  1. Reporting of substandard or linen shortages to the Facilities Manager.
  1. Covering of other study bedrooms and/or offices during holiday and sickness periods as required by the Facilities Manager.
  1. Reporting maintenance and defects to the Facilities Manager.
  1. Maintaining personal hygiene and appearance.
  1. To be security conscious and to report any incidents to the Facilities Manager or to the Domestic Bursar.

  • Hours of work:part-time 25 hours per week
  • Probationary Period: 6 months
