JOB SUMMARY:

To contribute to the successful overall performance of Blue Skies Hospitals Fund by fundraising through a range of income streams, and promoting the Charity’s aims, priorities and key messages to internal and external audiences. The post holder will be expected to secure new funding relationships spanning Trusts and Foundations, individual giving, community and events, legacies and in memoriam, major donors and corporate supporters. The post holder will also be expected to lead and direct the Communications and Marketing strategy with a view to raising the profile of Blue Skies Hospitals Fund internally and externally.

Working as a senior member of the fundraising team, the post holder will contribute to Blue Skies Hospitals Fund’s strategy and future plans.

The post holder will line manage the Fundraising Administrator.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising

1  Contribute to the development and implementation of the fundraising strategy to increase income and meet the growing needs of Blue Skies Hospitals Fund, to enhance patient care across Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

2  Oversee the legacy and in memoriam programme, including the design and print of literature, and work closely with the Fundraising Officer in order to develop this important source of income.

3  Oversee the community and events fundraising programme, ensuring that proposed activities adhere to Charity Law and fundraising regulations, are properly managed and evaluated, and that events deliver an acceptable return on investment.

4  Generate compelling fundraising proposals relating to new and existing Trust projects and devise fundraising plans to meet financial targets.

5  Identify, research and approach potential corporate funders for support in the form of sponsorship, donations, Charity of the Year partnerships or cause related marketing.

6  Submit appropriate and effective funding proposals to selected Trusts and Foundations for agreed projects and services.

7  Plan and oversee the delivery of appropriate cultivation and stewardship events, to engage supporters with the work of Blue Skies Hospitals Fund and develop further support.

8  Oversee the effective management, maintenance and development of the department’s fundraising database, Donorflex.

9  Oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures for an effective fundraising operation, to include recording income, claiming Gift Aid, acknowledging donors and reporting back to funders as required.

10  Reconcile the Charity’s accounts with the Charitable Funds Accountant periodically and as required.

11  Keep abreast of charity and fundraising law and developments, undertaking training and ensuring compliance with the Charities Act and the Institute of Fundraising’s Code of Practice.

Communications and Marketing

12  Act as the lead on all matters relating to communications, marketing and PR.

13 Devise and implement the communications, marketing and digital media strategies for the Charity, in conjunction with the Head of Fundraising.

14  Lead on the design and production of identities for charitable funds, under the umbrella of Blue Skies Hospitals Fund, in order to promote proactive fundraising for specific departments (such as the Lancashire Cardiac Centre, the Breast Care Centre, the Neonatal Unit); to include logo design, production of literature; website development; and separate communication plans.

15  Write and implement communications and marketing strategies to support specific fundraising appeals, to ensure maximum publicity, awareness and funds raised.

16  Act as the lead for relationship management with the local media, handling and responding to media enquiries in an appropriate and timely manner.

17  Produce all marketing communications for the Charity, sustaining high quality media releases, publications and presentations across all available media.

18  Source proactive media material through a network of staff, donor and fundraiser relations.

19  Proactively develop the Charity’s brand and ensure all materials produced within or linked to the charity are consistent.

20  Promote charitable funding opportunities to staff, to include support available from Blue Skies Hospitals Fund, and any other relevant charity partnerships. Ensure the impact of charitable donations is promoted widely internally and externally.

21  Implement an effective internal communications programme to engage staff and keep them up-to-date with the Charity’s activities and opportunities to get involved.

22  Commission, write, edit, proof-read and co-ordinate complex internal and external communications, leaflets, newsletters, press releases and articles.

23  Be the content editor of the Charity’s fundraising newsletter (Enhance), sourcing features; writing, proof reading and co-ordinating copy; and overseeing design and production with the Charity’s external printer.

24  Commission, brief and manage the work of external designers, printers and other such suppliers within agreed budget and timescale.

Digital Communications

25  Manage, develop and maintain the Blue Skies Hospitals Fund website ensuring continuous improvement, in conjunction with the Web Services Team.

26  Manage, develop and maintain the Charity’s SharePoint site, to ensure that staff can access up to date information about the Charity, fundraising and applying for funding.

27  Ensure that the Charity’s website is developed in a way that uses the power of digital communication as a marketing and information tool.

28  Manage relationships with website contractors and other suppliers to commission web developments.

29  Create and direct short films to promote Blue Skies Hospitals Fund, in conjunction with the Trust’s Visual Communications Assistant.

30  Maintain and produce content for the Charity’s social media channels, namely Twitter and Facebook, and ensure that opportunities for social networking are maximised.

31  Manage the development of new media content for the Charity.

Fundraising Events and Appeals

32  Lead on the promotion for fundraising and cultivation events, such as the annual Tree of Lights event.

33  Organise and manage ad hoc events for appeal launches or donor cultivation.

34  Produce communications plans for fundraising events and appeals.

35  Arrange cheque presentations and photo calls in conjunction with donors or community fundraisers and the relevant benefiting departments across the Trust.

36  Research and secure celebrity involvement and/or endorsements for fundraising appeals or events.

37  Assist community fundraisers with the promotion of their activities and events with a view to maximising funds raised for Blue Skies Hospitals Fund.

38  Represent the Charity at external events, to support community fundraisers or give talks/presentations in order to raise the profile of Blue Skies Hospitals Fund and attract new supporters.

Building and Maintaining Relationships

39  Be responsible for the line management of the Fundraising Administrator, providing clear direction, offering support, training and development, as well undertaking regular performance and development reviews.

40  Work with partnership charities such as the Rosemere Cancer Foundation and MedEquip4Kids to maximise publicity and awareness of their work which supports Blue Skies Hospitals Fund.

41  Develop relationships with local schools to encourage participation in fundraising for Blue Skies Hospitals Fund, in conjunction with the Fundraising Officer.

42  Develop and maintain positive relationships with existing and new supporters through face to face meetings, telephone contact, events and written correspondence.

43  Recruit, support and retain a range of volunteer fundraising groups, including the existing Blue Skies Ambassadors and encourage volunteer led fundraising activities internally and externally.

44  Act as a spokesperson for Blue Skies Hospitals Fund and represent the Charity at public events to give compelling presentations to engage new audiences and support.

45  Deal with sensitive and complex situations, such as interviewing recently bereaved relatives.

46  Liaise and build positive working relationships with other teams and departments across the Trust.

47  Act as an ambassador for the Charity with patients, members of the public, external organisations, donors and the media.

48  Work in conjunction with the Trust’s Communications Team to maximise marketing opportunities and generate positive PR for both the Charity and the Trust.

Research and Development

49  Carry out research, analysis and evaluation to inform future fundraising, communications and marketing strategies, keeping abreast of new trends and what other local charities are doing.

50  Proactively identify and pursue opportunities to raise the Trust’s external profile through the media.

51  Contribute to the general development of the overall fundraising activity at Blue Skies Hospitals Fund.

52  Actively participate in training and development to further enhance your role and keep abreast of new fundraising, communications, marketing and website developments and techniques.

Planning and Administration

53  Support and deputise for the Head of Fundraising where necessary.

54  Support the Head of Fundraising by contributing proactively to team meetings, strategic discussions and taking on additional projects where possible and appropriate.

55  Keep the Head of Fundraising up to date with developments and liaise on key decisions.

56  Provide reports of Fundraising and Communications performance at designated intervals, for internal meetings, in particular meetings of the Charitable Funds Committee and Corporate Trustee.

57  Keep files of all publicity and press cuttings generated for Blue Skies Hospitals Fund.

58  Manage the distribution of Blue Skies literature and ensure notice boards are well maintained and up-to-date.

59  Undertake routine mailings and distributions.

60  Act as a helpful and knowledgeable member of the team, dealing with enquiries from donors, patients and their relatives, volunteer fundraisers and Trust staff.

61  Develop and administer effective systems and undertake own administration with support from the Fundraising Administrator.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Each member of the Trust’s staff is responsible for ensuring the confidentiality of any information relating to patients and for complying with all the requirements of the Data Protection Act whilst carrying out the duties of the post. Any breaches in confidentiality will be dealt with by the Trust’s Disciplinary Procedure and may result in dismissal.

3.  Health and Safety

Each member of the Trust’s staff is responsible for ensuring that they carry out the duties of their post in accordance with all appropriate Health and Safety legislation, guidance and procedures and they do not, by any act or omission on their part, create a threat to the Health and Safety of any other person.

6.  Flexibility

This job description is intended to act as a flexible guide to the duties of the post and therefore will require revision in consultation with the post holder to reflect the changing requirements of the post, to enable the Trust to achieve its corporate goals and objectives.

7. Physical Effort

The post holder will be sat for prolonged periods to undertake computer work. There will be the occasional need for light lifting of promotional materials and equipment.

8. Mental Effort

The role will require frequent concentration for research; producing compelling written work; advising patients, staff and members of the public; juggling conflicting demands on time; and dealing with frequent interruptions. There will be occasional exposure to sensitive and emotional situations such as illnesses or bereavement and the post holder will be expected to show empathy, tact and diplomacy.

9. Working Conditions

The role requires continuous use of a computer. The post holder will be required to travel across the local area, and occasionally further afield, to attend meetings, training and community events, during and outside of normal office hours.
