JOB TITLE:COUNTRYSIDE, GAME & ESTATE SKILLS INSTRUCTOR

CURRICULUM: AGRICULTURE AND COUNTRYSIDE

CONTRACT: SUPPORT STAFF

CAMPUS: DUCHY COLLEGE, STOKE CLIMSLAND

JOB PURPOSE

  1. Provide practical instruction to students on a range of programmes and levels
  2. Assist in the maintenance and organisation of the practical resources used on the teaching programmes
  3. Participate in College promotional/marketing activities including the use of social media
  4. Maintain and service tools, equipment and machinery
  5. Be responsible for stock-taking, ordering and booking system for tools
  6. Keep accurate booking logs; stock taking and ordering during holiday periods
  7. Prepare equipment and tools for teaching purposes
  8. Uphold and maintain health & safety standards, equipment and records
  9. Undertake such other duties as may from time to time be required of the post holder

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Demonstrate and deliver high quality practical instruction to full-time, part-time and short course students as appropriate, in a supportive, productive and professional environment
  2. Support learners to achieve their full potential
  3. Ensure the learning experience is varied, enjoyable and achieves the objectives
  4. Report absences
  5. Carry out student assessments
  6. Prepare and maintain the practical facilities and realistic working environments used by staff and students and where appropriate organise the equipment, stores and machinery
  7. Participate with other staff in the effective monitoring of students' performance, welfare and discipline throughout their programme
  8. Undertake and evaluate risk assessments for the area
  9. Drive tractors and transport machinery between campuses and shows or exhibitions via public highways
  10. Ensure health and safety policies and regulations, for facilities, workshops, machinery and other physical resources, are adhered to by staff and clients of the College

GENERAL

  1. Attend and undertake associated and relevant training.
  2. Participate in the College performance appraisal review scheme
  3. Ensure health and safety policies and regulations are adhered to by all staff and students
  4. Work to promote and contribute to the College’s Equal Opportunities policies
  5. Contribute and promote safeguarding at all times, to ensure the safety and security of children, young people and vulnerable adults
  6. Comply with the College Safeguarding Policy and procedure in addition to the safeguarding responsibilities within the scope of the role
  7. Provide cover for absent colleagues as necessary to ensure timetabled classes are facilitated at all times
  8. Participate in the College’s observation of teaching, learning and assessment scheme (OTLA)
  9. Maintain effective and professional relationships with colleagues, parents, employers and other stakeholders
  10. Participate in college events for example parent’s evenings, information events, open days, school careers’ events, awards ceremonies and employer engagement meetings

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Relevant vocational qualification at Level 3 or higher
  • Level 2 Maths and English

Must have or be prepared to work towards relevant

  • First Aid
  • Instructor or teaching qualification
  • MIDAS minibus qualification
  • Suitable health and safety qualification

Experience

  • Considerable knowledge of the relevant industry with at least 5 years’ industry experience
  • Computer literate and will be expected to communicate through a wide range of communication technologies

  • High level of interpersonal skills particularly the ability to communicate effectively
  • An enthusiasm for the subject that will captivate learners
  • Demonstrate a high level of self-motivation, and an ability to achieve outcomes with limited supervision

Other duties and responsibilities:

  • Hold a current full driving licence
  • MIDAS trained to drive minibuses
  • Occasional evening and weekend work will be required
