LOCATION: The post holder will initially be based at the location specified in the job advertisement and the Contract of Employment. However, the Trust reserves the right, with consultation, to relocate post holders to any base within the Trust in line with service requirements.

JOB PURPOSE:

The post holder will work as a member of the Children Nasal Flu pilot programme team for FYPC Division, Leicester Partnership Trust to support the safe delivery of a large scale immunisation and vaccination programme within community and educational settings. This vaccine will be offered to all primary aged children from 5 (Year 1) to 13 years (Year 8) across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

To support in improving the uptake rate for this nasal flu immunisation for children/ young people and develop the service in conjunction with local providers and commissioners.
To contribute towards the public health agenda by improving health outcomes for children and young people
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ø  To support the safe administration and delivery of the vaccination across a variety of settings including, schools, GP surgeries and community settings, for children aged 5 – 13 years (programme for 2014/2015), in line with service development standards.
Ø  Deliver direct and indirect care as delegated under the direction and supervision of an appropriate Health Care Professional to support and deliver the vaccination programme.
Ø  Support care delivery by only undertaking delegated work that is within own level skill and competence. Bring any problems to the attention of the session coordinator that may arise during the course of their duty.
Ø  To identify vulnerable children and where appropriate play an integral role within the safeguarding process, utilising the Common Assessment Framework.
Ø  Work in partnership with children, young people, families and multi-agency services supporting the neighbourhood population’
Ø  To work to agreed objectives, ensuring effective and appropriate communication with team members and other agencies.
KEY RESULTS AREAS:
Clinical Responsibilities:
Ø  Assist in the organisation of immunisation sessions supporting the team and session coordinator.
Ø  Ensure the maintenance of the Cold Chain is adhered to throughout the process.
Ø  Compliance with the medicines management standards throughout the process including awareness of contraindications to vaccination.
Ø  Prepare and administer the vaccine safely and competently in accordance with a Patient Specific Directive following local/national standards and guidelines.
Ø  Support clients sensitivity to ensure their inclusion complies with equal opportunities and diversity.
Ø  Support and observe clients who have the ability to self-administer the vaccine.
Ø  Respond to clinical emergencies (anaphylaxis) initiating basic life support to ensure emergency procedures are executed and reported in accordance with national and local policy. Report adverse drug reactions to the named session coordinator so that reporting can be made through the MRHA system.
Ø  Signpost children and young people to the session coordinator where additional advice and support is indicated for identified health needs.
Public Health Responsibilities:
Ø  Contribute towards the development of public health initiatives to meet the needs of identified target groups and carry out public health promotional activities through integration and effective partnership working.
Ø  As a member of the nasal flu immunisation team develop and deliver the program, supporting achievement of performance targets.
Ø  Provide advice and information to clients, parents, members of the public and professionals within their competency framework.
Quality and Governance Responsibilities:

Ø  Ensure confidentiality in accordance with policy and demonstrate understanding of specific issues relating to children and young people.

Ø  Ensure accurate recording of all relevant patient information at each stage of the process in accordance with policy and guidelines.
Ø  Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and confidential electronic records according to Trust Guidelines.
Ø  Demonstrate skills and knowledge in safeguarding practice in accordance with role and ensure appropriate action is taken in accordance with safeguarding procedures.
Ø  Carry out duties consistent with individual patient /users wishes, maintaining privacy, dignity and recognising cultural diversity and needs.
Ø  Maintain a high degree of professionalism, particularly when interfacing with the public.
Ø  Support the process of client and user satisfaction feedback to help develop service provision.

Ø  Promote own personal and others health, safety and security taking the appropriate action to report risk in accordance with policy.
Resource Responsibilities:
Ø  Equipment and resources are managed effectively to reduce waste and promote cost efficiency.
Ø  Ensure the safe keeping and maintenance of equipment in accordance with policy reporting defect or loss.
Ø  Support the safe storage and stock control of vaccines and adrenaline in accordance with prescription only medicines management and cold chain policy.

PHYSICAL DIMENSIONS:
Visiting different settings:
Ø  Lifting and carrying equipment, immunisations work kits, vaccine cool boxes

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The organisation is in a period of rapid change due to developments and rationalisation of services. This will lead to a modification of structures and job descriptions. The post holder will be expected to co-operate with changes subject to consultation, at any time throughout the duration of their contract.

MOBILITY:

The person specification for the role will detail the mobility requirements of the post.

However, employees may be required to work at any of the other sites within the organisation subject to consultation.

CONFIDENTIALITY:

The Trust attaches the greatest importance to patient confidentiality and to the confidentiality of personal health data, personal data and other data held and processed by the Trust. All data should be treated as confidential and should only be disclosed on a need-to-know basis.

Some data may be especially sensitive and is the subject of a specific organisation policy, including information relating to the diagnosis, treatment and/or care of patients and individual staff records. Under no circumstances should any data be divulged or passed on to any third party who is not specifically authorised to receive such data.
