Job Title: City Service Crew Supervisor

Department: City Service Crew

Job Summary: This position is responsible for managing and directing the overall work of the City Service department for the City of Monticello.

Major Duties:

  • Manages the general operation of the department including overseeing the operations and maintenance of all water, sewer and city property within the city.
  • Oversees the provision of city services including Water and Sewer and Street draining system and rite-awaysmaintenance and repair.
  • Supervises councils and evaluate staff, develops and implements operating policies and procedures, short and long range plans for the department.
  • Reviews and assist in formulating the overall structure of the department.
  • Reviews the operation of departmental functions to ensure compliance with procedures to promote efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assists and monitors equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Additional duties may be required as needed by work to be done to ensure proper services and maintenance to the City of Monticello.

Knowledge Required By the Position:

  • Knowledge of relevant federal state and local codes, regulations and laws.
  • Knowledge of accounting and budgeting principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of operations of municipality Systems including water sewer and street skills in public relations and interpersonal communication skills, oral and written communication.
  • Skill in operating such grounds equipment such as a mower, power saw, chipper, trimmer, and weed eater.
  • Skill in operating such vehicles and equipment as a backhoe, front end loader, tractor and dump truck.
  • Skill in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

Supervisory Controls:The supervisor assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The work is reviewed for the nature of propriety of the final results.

Guidelines: Guidelines include departmental and safety policies and procedures, traffic laws, state, local and federal laws. These guidelines are generally clear but may require some interpretation in application.

Complexity: The work consists of related equipment operation and water, sewer and city service maintenance. Maintaining traffic flow and digging around buried service lines.

Scope and effect: The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance duties of the water, sewer and city service system. Successful performance helps ensure safe and attractive streets and proper function of water and sewer services.

Physical Demands: The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, lifting, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee must frequently lift light and heavy objects, climb ladders, and use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.

Work Environment: The work is typically performed outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts and inclement weather. The work may require the use of protective devices such as mask, goggles and or gloves.

Supervisory and Management Responsibilities: This position has functional supervision over assigned crews.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, Write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions and be able to answer questions and resolve problems as they arise.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia
  • Possession of a valid distribution and collection license issued by the State of Georgia.
