Community and Civic Organizations supported by NACOG Community Services

  • The NACOG Community Action Network in Apache County includes the Round Valley Senior Center, New Hope Ranch, and the Old Concho Community Assistance Center. In SFY 2010 NACOG provided $28,573 per site to support case management and administrative activities. The three subcontracted sites processed assistance applications for 420 households, distributed 18,000 donated food boxes, solicited nearly 7,000 hours of volunteer service from low-income individuals, and made 3,150 referrals to other federal and nonprofit agencies to meet self-sufficiency goals.
  • In Yavapai County, NACOG partners with the Cottonwood Area Transit System to provide bus passes to low income individuals, seniors, and disabled persons. In SFY2010, locally planned SSBG funds were allocated by NACOG CSA to pay the salary of one bus driver ($17,000) and CSBG funds paid for 400 bus passes ($20/pass). Approximately half the CATS ridership is made up of commuters (38%) and students (13%), the other half is composed of individuals using the bus for non-commuting reasons (medical appointments, shopping, orother errands).
  • NACOG, in partnership with The Arizona Community Action Association, United Way of Northern Arizona and Catholic Charities of Yavapai County, provides financial assistance to support Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites in an effort to increase the number of eligible rural Arizonans and American Indian communities who claim the earned income tax credit (EITC), receive free tax preparation services, and participate in financial literacy and asset-building activities. During the 2010 tax season NACOG paid for office supplies for VITA locations in Yavapai County. For the 2011 tax season NACOG printed and distributed over 500 brochures to clients, case managers, and community partners to promote VITA sites and the EITC in the rural communities and tribal areas. Financial support for office supplies will also be provided to United Way of Northern Arizona and Catholic Charities to support rural tax assistance VITA sites.
  • In the fall of 2010, NACOG partnered with Catholic Charities in Yavapai County to expend CSBG-ARRA housing funds to families and individuals in need of stable housing. NACOG provided Catholic Charities with $2700 in administrative and case management support and as a result, 87 households were assisted with more than $75,000 in housing funds over a period of 45 days through our partnership.

Key 2010 Agency Results

  • The NACOG Economic Workforce Development (EWD) office serving Yavapai Countyenrolled 2,672 unemployed individuals in their workforce program. Of the 1,584 participants expected to meet the goal of obtaining and maintaining employment, 681 participants obtained a job, 123 obtained and maintained a job for 90 days, and 771 achieved living wage employment.
  • 376 of the 545 individuals studying to earn a GED diploma, skills or post-secondary education certificate through the EWD program, achieved their goal and were able to seek better employment options.
  • The Weatherization Program improved the livability of 355 homes in SFY 2010 to help low-income homeowners increase energy efficiency resulting inan average saving of 35% or $25 - $100 in monthly utility costs depending on the size of the home and type of energy used for heating or cooling.
  • In SFY 2010, 1465 disabled individuals and 1187 seniors received services through Community Service Administration (CSA) programsto maintain independent living situations. Services provided include transportation vouchers, energy assistance, telephone aid, andcase management.
  • The Community Services Administration assisted 172 families in SFY 2010 maintain permanent housing bypreventing eviction or foreclosurethrough TANF and ESG programs. The ability to maintain housing is critical to maintaining permanent and meaningful employment.
