Job Title: Catering Apprentice

Pay Scale: Apprentice Rate (£3.40 per hour)

Hours/Weeks per annum: 32.5 hours per week, 38 weeks per year.

Mon - Fri 8am – 3.00pm

(Term Time only)

Responsible to: Chef Manager/Assistant Chef

Job Purpose: To work as part of the Catering team to provide healthy, safe food for breakfast, break time and lunch provision. To assist with preparing food for whole school events and staff events/meetings ensuring basic food hygiene at all times.

Duties and responsibilities include:

1.  Assist with the preparation and cooking of ‘safe’ food in a hygienic environment.

2.  To ensure high standards of customer care delivering quick, efficient and friendly service.

3.  To ensure that the kitchen, equipment, servery, dining and ancillary areas are kept in a clean, tidy and hygienic condition at all times to comply with the relevant Food Safety and Hygiene Legislation.

4.  To move dining room furniture where applicable.

5.  To assist with function work as required on occasional evenings or weekends or during school holidays.

6.  To operate the dishwasher and to undertake cleaning duties and observing relevant safety precautions.

7.  Any other duties as directed by the Chef Manager and/or Assistant Chef, which may include operation of tills, cash handling or servicing of vending machines under the supervision of the Chef Manager.

8.  Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security and confidentiality, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.

9.  Be an effective role model for the standards of behaviour expected of students.

10.  Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.

11.  Appreciate and support the role of other professionals.

12.  Attend and participate in regular meetings as required. Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
EXPERIENCE AND JOB KNOWLEDGE / - Interest in food and cooking
- Interest in nutrition & healthy food / -  Catering experience through school studies or work experience
-  Knowledge of Health and Safety guidelines.
JOB RELATED ABILITIES / -  Flexible/adaptable approach to the job.
-  Good communication skills.
-  Ability to follow instructions.
-  Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
-  Ability to work well under pressure.
-  Ability to work outside normal working hours.
-  Ability to work with children.
-  Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with colleagues. / -  Ability to complete basic paperwork.
-  Cash handling experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

/ -  Achieve 45% pass mark or greater in City College English and Maths assessments.
-  Ability to complete ICT functional skills at City College during apprenticeship / -  Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
-  Catering
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / -  Ability to lift items appropriate to catering and to move dining room furniture as required.
-  Good attendance record.
