1 – 4 JULY
The group of 17‘young at heart’ travellers found that the best way to ward off the cold Cape winter weather is to enjoy a heart-warming ‘Christmas in Winter’ tour to Montagu. As usual, theMontagu Country Hotel came up trumps ---crackling fires in all the hearths -- the diningroom specially partitioned off for our group and decorated for Christmas --- traditional Christmas fare --- Kosie Hanekom on the piano playing Christmas songs –- it was a night to remember! All we needed was snow!
Onecan’tvisit Montaguwithout embarkingon thetractor rideup the Langeberg Mountain followed by the‘potjiekos’ lunch. The many varieties of proteawere in full bloom on the mountainside - what a magnificent sight!
Montagu and surrounding areas has much to offer thetourist and the ‘Christmas in Winter’ tour will definitelybe repeated.
GROUP TOUR TO ADDO
24-30 AUGUST
We have just returned from a wonderful trip to Addo. The well-loved 4-star ‘Eight Bells Mountain Inn’ was a welcome overnight stop before commencing the Garden Route leg of the journey. Time permitted a stop at the Boardwalk in Port Elizabeth for some of the folk to meet up with friends and relatives.
The 4-star Cosmos Cuisine Guesthouse in the Addo area of the lush Sundays River Valley was wonderful – luxury accommodation, good well-presented meals and country hospitality. While the Western Cape was being battered by storms, we were basking in temperatures of ±30°C!
The game drive in the Addo Elephant Park was one of the highlights – we saw about 150 elephants of all ages and sizes around, and in, a waterhole! We also visited a wildlife rehab centre and a cheetah breeding farm. As this was the citrus harvesting season, we were able to visit a Citrus Packhouse in Kirkwood, which was most interesting.
On the return journey we spent some time at the Knysna Waterfront and once again overnighted at ‘Eight Bells’.
The tour was conducted at a leisurely pace with plenty of stops at safe, hygienic facilities en route.
