Responsible for:Managing theElderberry Servicesoperations and the ongoing development

Hours:32 hours a week to include 4 x Saturdays per month

Main purpose of job:

To manage the Elderberry Services to provide respite and support for

carers of people with dementia in Haywards Heath and Littlehampton and

carers of frail and elderly people in Crawley.

To provide a safe and stimulating environment for the cared for.

To promote and grow Elderberry Services.

To carry out service administration.

Main Duties:

  1. To manage the operation of the Elderberry Services in various West Sussex venues offering a quality supportservice is given to members with activities, lunch and transport with personal assistance where needed.
  1. To ensure accurate records are maintained for both the cared for and carers are carried out.
  1. To ensure appropriate informationand support is provided for carers including referral pathways.
  1. To develop membership for the services to achieve income targets and contract criteria.
  1. To ensure an appropriate activities programme for the services areoffered.. Ensure activities are appropriate, safe and stimulating.
  1. To managethe Elderberry Senior Support Workersto include:
  • Recruitment
  • Training and development
  • Holiday, absence and sickness recording
  • Performance
  • Disciplinary issues.
  1. To ensure appropriate staff support and training is carried out for the Elderberry Services; advise other sections within the organisation on suitable dementia training, and carry out where appropriate.
  1. To ensure catering for the services provides a quality, nutritious and consistent service compliant with Food Health and Safety regulations and meeting targeted GP and income.
  1. To ensure administration processes for the services are adhered to ensuring all invoicing and banking is carried out in a timely way.
  1. To develop partnership working with voluntary sector and older people organisations sharing ideas and resources to embed the services in their communities.
  1. To manage the fundraising strategy for the services organising events to achieve targeted income. Build relationships to generate income from local businesses, supporters and funding bodies with assistance from the Marketing and Development Officer.
  1. To market the Elderberry Services in an effective and creative way, including attending meetings and forums, stands at events and giving talks.
  1. Toprovide statistical and monitoring information for Head of Wellbeing Services and service funder.
  1. To record members and carer’s feedback and ensure their involvement in the development of the services.
  1. To oversee the recruitment, training andsupport process for Elderberry Service volunteers in line with AWS policies.
  1. To take responsibility for allHealth and Safety compliance for the Elderberry services with support from AWS Health and Safety Officer.
  1. To take responsibility for all processes and policies of the Elderberry Services in line with AWS management systems.
  1. To act as a First Aider, Fire Marshall and Key Holder.
  1. To attend relevant and mandatory training as requested by AWS Head of Wellbeing Services.
  1. To attend one to one, management, networking, partnership, community and council committee meetings as required.
  1. To undertake any other duties appropriate within the role as may be reasonably required by AWS.

Knowledge: / Experience of working with people with dementia, and frail and elderly people
Experience of supporting carers
Understanding of issues that affect older people
Experience: / Operational management of a dementia service
Ability to identifyand improve service development
Budgetary and financial management
Team management including performance
Training experience
Development of activities suitable for people with dementia
Partnership working with community, voluntary and charitable sector organisations.
