JOB TITLE:Careers Advisor

RESPONSIBLE TO: Headteacher/PSHE Coordinator

LIAISON WITH:

Students, parents, post-16 educational institutions, apprenticeship providers, businesses, employers and SLT.

POST:

Full time (37 hours), term time only, including attendance at parents’ evenings, options evening and GCSE results day.

PARTICULAR DUTIES:

To provide impartial information, advice and guidance to help people make realistic choices about education, training and work. Careers education forms a continuous thread throughout our school life. It aims to provide a frameworkwithin which each student can develop the self-awareness and experience necessary to make balanceddecisions at each stage during their time at the school and, hopefully, after they leave.

MAIN ACTIVITIES ATTRIBUTABLE TO PARTICULAR DUTIES:

  1. Plan a systematic and structured careers offer to ensure that no child is left behind.
  2. Provide impartial information, advice and guidance to individuals and to groups of students in relationto all aspects of their progression planning.
  3. Assist students with action planning following their careers interview.
  4. The management and administration post-16 applications.
  5. Work with the PSHE Coordinator to develop careers related activities across the school.
  6. Develop and promote FE links across the curriculum and assisting in the development ofFE partnerships.
  7. Organise university and college visits.
  8. Gather information on the labour market and employment trends in orderto offer up to date accurate knowledge of opportunities to support effective career guidance.
  9. Organise people from the world, including employers, colleges and universities, apprenticeships to inspire student’s post-16. This should include an impact analysis
  10. Maintain the Careers Library and careers resources.
  11. Develop and promote the use of progression related IT/online systems and softwareacross the school, intended destinations records and progression, alongside the PSHE Coordinator.
  12. Contribute to the compilation of the schools intended destinations data.
  13. Assist in the planning and organising of careers related activities in school.
  14. Interview students either one to one or in small groups, Recording interviews and advice given on student action plan.
  15. Assist students to draw up action plans for employment, education and training andsupporting them to achieve their goals.
  16. Facilitate outside careers and FE provider visits to the school.
  17. Co-ordinateRotary mock interviews and interview practice for students.
  18. Responsibility for Business Mentoring.
  19. Collate evidence for maintenance of the ROQA CEIAG.
  20. Deal with general careers related correspondence and enquiries both by telephone, letterand email.
  21. Word process letters and documents for internal and external use.
  22. Photocopy and circulate documentation to the relevant staff.
  23. Input relevant data onto the school’s Management Information System.
  24. Collate evaluations relating to WRL activities.
  25. Take part in professional development activities including appraisal.
  26. Promote equal opportunities for students and staff.
  27. Work with the Data Manager on the transfer and updating of data for intended destinations, references etc.
  28. Be available to offer independent impartial advice and guidance at schools where agreement of support exists.
  29. Assist the Assistant Headteacherresponsible for Raising Aspirations – G&T HE.
  30. Organise visits to universities and colleges, as appropriate.
  31. Undertake other tasks as required by the Headteacher, after due consultation.
