Job Title:Assistant Support Manager

Hours:39 hours

To be worked flexibly as agreed between the post-holder and the Support Manager

Reports to:Support Manager

Accountable to:Area Manager

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide assistance and management support to the Support Manager, and deputise as required in the Support Manager’s absence, with regard to the day to day management and operational delivery responsibilities of a designated cluster of service
  • As required, contribute to the improvement, development and effectiveness of the designated cluster of service, and the organisation as a whole.
  • Provide deputy management support to the Support Manager to ensure the meaningful involvement of people who use services in decision making and that service developments are co-produced as applicable.

SUPPORT & CARE:

  • As required and as directed, support the Support Manager to ensure that APV/SCERTS is fully embedded into services and that all documentation held in services is reflective of the practice model and that it positively impacts on all people who use our services.
  • Fully promote people who use our services being connected to mainstream community supports / activities and as directed by the Support Manager, seek opportunities for people having alternatives to paid support e.g. through the use of assistive technology solutions
  • As required and as directed, assist the Support Manager to ensure that people who we support are involved in the formulation of comprehensive support plans with clear risk assessments that are accessible, understood and correctly followed by support staff.
  • As required and as directed, assist the Support Manager to ensure all support or plans are relevant to the people who use services, adhered to, monitored and regularly reviewed.
  • As required and as directed, assist the Support Manager to ensure the safe and person centered delivery of all support provided, but support people to positively take risks as appropriate.
  • As required and as directed, work with staff teams, families of the people we support, care managers and other professionals to ensure the most appropriate support is provided, including requests for support increases and reductions as required.
  • Ensure that appropriate records are maintained for and on behalf of people as deemed necessary and in compliance with relevant legislation. Ensure they are clear and easy to follow as required by the individual service and the wider organisation, maintaining rights to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Ensure all suspected or disclosed abuse is reported immediately to a senior manager, and appropriate safeguarding action is taken.

STAFF

  • Provide leadership and positive role modelling to all support staff within Autism Hampshire services.
  • As required and as directed by the Support Manager, and/or in their absence, manage the effective deployment of staff ensuring that all contracted hours are provided.
  • As required and as directed by the Support Manager, and/or in their absence, ensure involvement in recruitment, staff local induction, probation review, supervision and appraisal of staff.
  • As required and as directed by the Support Manager, and/or in their absence, manage staff vacancies and recruitment to vacant posts.
  • As required and as directed by the Support Manager, and/or in their absence, ensure the timeframes required for completion of any evidence in relation to induction standards are adhered to.
  • As required and as directed by the Support Manager, and/or in their absence, ensure any performance, or sickness issues are managed according to the policies and processes of Autism Hampshire and escalate any concerns to the Area Manager.
  • As required and as directed by the Support Manager, and/or in their absence, identify training needs of staff, and empower staff to access training opportunities, ensuring compliance with statutory and mandatory training.
  • Support staff from other locations not specific to the assigned cluster.
  • As required and as directed by the Support Manager, and/or in their absence, provide training and development, where appropriate to support teams/staff.
  • Take the initiative with regard to talent spotting and development of support workers who have the skills and competencies for future development, and identify such staff to the Support Manager.

REGULATION

  • Provide support to the Support Manager to ensure compliance with the requirements of Autism Hampshire’s registration with the Care Quality Commission, and take responsibility in the Support Manager’s absence to ensure such compliance continues.
  • Assist in providing services that comply with the requirements of the Health and Social Care Act, meet or exceed the Essential Standards of Quality and Safety, and in accordance with the local Statement of Purpose and Service User Guide.

GENERAL

  • Support the management of effective use of budgets within a defined cluster of services.
  • Support the management of defined cluster of services against Key Performance Indicators.
  • As designated by the Support Manager; organise and lead, where required:

-Team meetings

-Service user meetings

-Assessments

-Surveys

-Audits and evaluations

  • Ensure all incidents, accidents, and near misses are reported in accordance with policies.
  • Carry out peer reviews of the quality of services in line with the quality assurance processes.
  • Be involved in working groups as required.
  • Take responsibility for additional assigned tasks determined by senior staff or line manager.
  • Carry out investigations as requested by the Area Manager or other Senior manager.
  • Participate in the on-call service as required.

Authority: Provide support to the Support Manager, and/or in their absence, to ensure compliance by yourself and staff of Autism Hampshire’s Standing Orders, Standing Financial Instructions, Policies, Procedures and Guidelines. Promote Equality & Diversity practice.

Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality for all areas of Autism Hampshire, its staff and work. The nature of work within care entrusts people with confidential information about individual students and their families. Any breach of confidentiality may constitute gross misconduct.

Review of Job Description:

This job description is a summary of the tasks to be undertaken by the Assistant Support Manager. As duties and responsibilities change and develop, the job description will be reviewed and subject to amendment in consultation with the post holder.
