Aim

To develop and deliver an inspirational and varied arts programme(performing, creative, visual) for

Crisis Skylight Birmingham clients.

The role

The Arts Coordinator will plan a programme of arts activities/classes that will enable homeless and vulnerably housed people to develop their creativity, confidence, self esteem and inter-personal skills. The Arts Coordinator will manage and support sessional tutors delivering the programme as well as delivering classes in their own specialism. Key to the success of the programme will be strong partnership working with both arts and homelessness organisations in Birmingham.

Crisis Skylight, our award winning and accredited education, training and employment centres, offer practical and creative workshops in a supportive and inspiring environment together with formal learning opportunities that lead to qualifications and finding work.Crisis has two Crisis Skylight centres in London and Newcastle, and is currently extendingservices toOxford and Birmingham as well is other major cities in the UK.

CSB is a new and intimate arts, education, employment and training service for homeless and vulnerable adults. Operating in south central Birmingham, CSB will open offering a range of floating service delivering workshops, courses and one-to-one sessions in local community and partner organisations facilities. Over three years, CSB will almost double in size, to include its own Crisis Skylight building and to increase the scale and scope of the workshops, courses and sessions available.

Crisis preferred way of working is to partner with a broad range of organisations from the voluntary, community, statutory and private sectors. Creating these integrated networks offer clients an extended range of supported options to help them build their individual resilience and capabilities, move back into employment, education or training and improve their quality of life.

Dimensions

Under general direction of the Senior Tutor the Arts Coordinator will:

§  deliver up to 14 hours of arts activity per week to groups consisting of no more that 16 participants.

§  will plan and resource (materials, sessional tutors, etc) up to 12 further hours of activity per week.

Circumstances

§  £21,742 pro rata (£13,045 per annum)

§  21 hours per week, some evening and weekend work may be required.

§  CSB will run four ten week terms per year. Terms breaks will be used for ad-hoc events such as Jobs Fairs, award ceremonies, taster sessions, end of term performances and preparation for the next term.

§  Office based in Digbeth, a short walk for the city centre.

Principal accountabilities

§  Develop a varied arts programme (creative, visual and performing) in consultation with the Senior Tutor, CSB clients and CSB partner organisations.

§  Promote, coordinate & manage the participation of CSB clients in internal / external exhibitions, festivals, market stalls and performances.

§  Arrange group trips to performances, exhibitions and other related arts activities

§  Ensure delivery of the agreed programme of activities and take responsibility for ensuring high quality and efficiency.

§  To ensure the activities are evaluated under Crisis guidelines.

§  To encourage the involvement of the wider community.

§  Make hiring and cost recommendations for the arts programme. Arrange payment for facilities usage, materials, equipments and sessional tutors as needed.

§  Manage, support & co-ordinate sessional tutors for arts activities.

§  Work with the Crisis Communications team to develop advertising and marketing materials to promote the arts programme.

§  Building and maintaining good working relationships with a range of educational establishments, freelance practitioners, artists and craftspeople, voluntary and private organisations.

§  Ensure effective communication, via the Head of CSB, with all funders through project reports and evaluation.

§  Develop and share teaching and learning materials with the team and with other Skylight centres

§  Participate in professional development activities

§  Promote well-being and development of the organisation internally and externally

§  Participate in the continual improvement of resources, learning environments and delivery of effective teaching methods and styles.

Qualifications and training
Either holds or is working towards a practical teaching qualification / ü
Formal qualification in the Arts / ü
Knowledge and experience
Experience of delivering arts activities and workshops to small groups / ü
Experience of project management in community arts / ü
Knowledge and understanding of how to develop a high quality and varied arts programme / ü
Sound knowledge of arts qualifications up to level 2 and the quality standards expected for the successful delivery of accredited arts activities / ü
Experience of working with challenging behaviour and people with complex needs / ü
Proven experience of engaging vulnerable, disengaged or hard to reach adults in arts activities. / ü
Skills and abilities
Specialist skills in a specific arts discipline (e.g. dance, acting, music, crafts, painting, etc) / ü
Excellent communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills / ü
Ability to prioritise, be self motivated and have good time-management skills / ü
Ability to motivate staff, volunteers, tutors and clients. / ü
Able to establish effective interpersonal relationships with a range of people / ü

Terms and Conditions

Pension

Crisis will contribute a sum equivalent to 5% of your salary into our group personal pension scheme with Scottish Equitable. You will be entitled to join this after three months service with contributions backdated to your start date.

Hours

Full time is 35 hours per week. Employees usually have some flexibility around start and finish time around a core time of 10h00 – 16h00. This depends on operational needs of the department in which employees are working. Some flexibility will be required in order to best meet the needs of clients; some evening / weekend work will be necessary.

Probationary Period

Six months, during which time the contract may be terminated with 1 week’s notice.

Notice

Following the successful completion of the probationary period, the notice period for this post is 1 month

Holidays

25 annual leave days, plus 8 public holidays per annum. Part-time employees are entitled to 25 days pro rata which is based on 2.08 days per month. The holiday year runs from 1 July – 30 June.

Sick pay

In the first six months of service employees are entitled to three working days sick leave. This rises to a maximum of 43 working days after six months.

Season Ticket Loan - A loan to purchase an annual season ticket for travel to and from work may be obtained with agreement of your line manager.

Maternity Leave and Adoption Leave

For employees with one year’s experience at 15 weeks before EWC entitled to 12 weeks full pay and 14 weeks at half pay.

Paternity leave - Up to 20 days paid leave.
