1. JOB DETAILS

Job Title: Addiction RecoverySupport Worker (ARSW)

Grade/Salary Scale: £19,587 – £21,650 (Including 7.5% unsocial hour’sallowance)

Responsible to: Team Leader – Addiction Recovery Service (ARS) North

Hours:37.5 hours a week

Signpost Recovery aims to ensure that the salaries we offer are competitive in comparison to the equivalent markets. Each year the organisation undertakes a Pay and Grading review to ensure our salaries are appropriate and in accordance with the organisational expectations of each role.

Our policy and practice on the recruitment of staff is that any new appointments are normally be made at the lowest point of the pay scale within the evaluated grade. Where a candidate is seeking to be appointed on a higher point than that of the lowest point of the evaluated grade, this must be highlighted no later than the interview stage of recruitment, however, no agreement will be given to this or the possibility of this, during the course of the recruitment process and this would only be a consideration after an individual is deemed to be the preferred candidate.

2. JOB PURPOSE & TEAM OVERVIEW
  • To provide services in line with the expectations of the Scottish Government (2014)National Quality Principles framework within the Addiction Recovery Service (ARS) recovery orientated system of care (ROSC) treatment model for problem drug and alcohol misuse, as part of a forward looking, flexible and creative team;
  • Working with service users in a manner that both reflects and contributes to the various Alcohol & Drug Partnership (ADP) Delivery Plans, Single Outcome Agreements (SOA) and Local Improvement Plans;
  • To participate in the service’s key elements (assessment, recovery coordination, delivery of psychosocial interventions, key working, opiate replacement therapy -ORT, exit planning and aftercare) are integratedand carried out to a high standard;
  • To deliver drug and/or alcohol treatment interventions that support our service users to achieve their recovery goals, positive outcomes and community re-integration whilst all the while maximising engagement and retention within the ARS;
  • To work effectively and flexibly with colleagues under the direction and support of the Team Leader– ARS North, and/or other appropriate managers, medical staff, nursing staff and NHS administration colleagues to ensure that our high standards of performance and service delivery are maintained;
  • To work collaboratively with other services to enable intervention(s) that support and motivate service users and meet their needs throughout all the various stages of their individual recovery journey;
  • To work within a strengths-based, ROSC, change and outcomes focused approach which promotes service users as responsible co-producers of health, well-being and recovery; and
  • To be an effective member of the integrated substance misuse multi-disciplinary staff team who is able to be deployed in any of our service delivery or partnershiptype environments.

4. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
4.1 WORKING WITH SERVICE USERS
Promote the principles and philosophy of a ‘Recovery Orientated System of Care’ (ROSC) in thoughts, words and actions.
Promote the overall service provision, treatment modalities and interventions available within and/or from the ARS, other substance misuse services and the wider universal services, including information, access, criteria and introductions to the services and/or supportsavailable.
To undertake strength based assessments with individuals experiencing substance misuse problems, taking an investigative approach to fully assess client need, presenting circumstances, recovery capital, aspirations, hopes, fears and goals.
To play an ongoing role is the assessment of risk and the development of risk management plans.
Negotiate and agree SMART* type Individual Care and/or Recovery Plans based on an appropriate, holistic, getting our priorities right (GOPR) and GIRFEC orientated assessment of need that highlights the interventions and referral(s) required to support their requirements in respect of matters such as healthcare, housing, employment, training & education, family and/or carer services.
*Specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound (Doran, 1981)
To implement, monitor and review Individual Recovery Plans, ensuring service users are central and directly involved in this process in such a way that they can shape their own re-integration into the community.
Deliver advice, information, guidance andbrief interventions that support the client to address less complex polysubstance use (e.g. cannabis, cocaine and alcohol use).
Provide key working and practical support to clients in receipt of Opiate Replacement Therapy (ORT), therefore ensuring the appropriate key working inputto prescriptions, liaising between the client, pharmacy and medical staff, providing ongoing assessment and information to medical colleagues on prescription and prescribing matters and where appropriate, using the Prescribing Database.
Provide harm reduction advice, information and guidance to service users and partnership staff, informally and formally through group-work and 1:1 sessions by covering topics such ascommunicable diseases, safer drinking, safer injecting and preventing and responding to non-fatal overdose (NFO).
Deliver the agreed tier specific and role appropriate structured psychosocial interventions (using recognised and agreed theoretical models).
Maintain treatment integrity by ensuring adherence to integrated substance misuse service guidelines, protocols and standard operating procedures.
Carry a caseload and ensure continuity-of-care for service users through effective key working and liaison with partnership agencies (e.g. Social Work).
Facilitate and encourage participation in community rehabilitation, self- help, peer support and mutual aid i.e. AA, NA and SMART Recovery.
Promote, embrace and ensure equality, diversity and the rights and responsibilities of individuals as standard. Ensure client confidentiality and data protection is maintained.
To understand, act upon and comply with the need to protect children and vulnerable adults through your knowledge, actions and adherence to the relevant principles, policies and procedures in respect of the multi-agency Forth Valley Child Protection (CP) and Adult Support and Protection (ASP) protocols.
Assist with and/or carry out the appropriate screening processes in respect of substitute prescribing and clinical governance expectations whether this be oral or urine drug testing.
4.2 PARTNERSHIP WORKING
Liaise and maintain effective links and work in collaboration with a range of agencies/partners/organisations for the purpose of joint working with and effective outcomes for service users, including gathering information for robust assessment. Attend and participate in multi-disciplinary meetings, deliver presentations and training as required.
Develop close links and working relationships with community services (across the Forth Valley area; in order to ensure communication, joint working and information sharing for the effective continuity-of-care for service users.
Work closely with all substance misuse services to ensure appropriate joint delivery of the Integrated Care Pathway (ICP).
Work to agreed joint working and information sharing protocols with partners including Primary Care, Mental Health and Social Work Teams.
Attend and participate in meetings e.g. Signpost Team Meetings, MDT, Multi-agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA), GIRFEC, CP and ASPto create working conditions conductive to providing better and fairer services to service users, their families and the wider community.
Liaise with nursing and medical staff to ensure effective joint working and shared care.
4.3 ADMINISTRATION
Maintain a knowledge and understanding of, and comply with Integrated Clinical Governance (ICG) approved guidelines, protocols etc., Signpost Recovery Policy & Procedures, Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) codes of practice and Health and Safety at Work.
Complete reports to a high standard maintaining accurate and up-to-date record of service users’ progress within specified time requirements.
Maintain accurate up to date records, reports, data, case files and Recovery Plans that conform to appropriate protocols, National Quality Principles, audit standards, contract requirements and service level agreements.
Ensure all paperwork meets a high standard, maintaining accurate and up-to-date record of client contacts within the specified time requirements as determined by ICG and Signpost Recovery.
Collect and input accurate data to local and national datasets in such a way that it contributes to a 100% compliance rate (quality and completeness) for Forth Valley ADP.
Ensure confidentiality and data protection is maintained in accordance with the requirement of the Information Commissioners Office (ICO), Information Governance, contractual requirements and the Data Protection (1998) Act.
To keep informed of evidenced based practice relevant to the provision of our services.
Undertake the appropriate continuous professional development (CPD) whilst maintaining an accurate and up to date CPD portfolio and/or record.
4.4 GENERAL
To maintain close contact with the wider Signpost Recovery and Substance Misuse Services for continuity of care and sharing good practice.
To work to the principles of Integrated Clinical Governance and to discharge the dutiesof your role in a way that is compliant with its expectations in respect of

To work flexible hours, this will include weekends and evenings.

Hold a current driving licence, have access to a roadworthy whilst also maintaining the appropriate business car insurance for the purposes of the role.
5. COMMUNICATIONS AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

As a representative of Signpost Recovery, and in the course of your work, you will be expected to conduct yourself in a professional manner and consistently demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills with regard to your interactions and engagements with others e.g. clients, their families, members of the public, colleagues within the Substance Misuse Service, staff from other substance misuse services and colleaguesand/or senior staff within the wider Signpost organisation. Moreover, this role will require you to deploy a combination of communicative people skills in order to identify, build, or enhance relationships with clients, their families and the wider community. The Team Leader - ARS North, as your line manager,will monitor and supervise your work through various means and will be your direct line of reporting and contact with regard to any matter(s) arising from your work.

6. PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications/Training /
  • An SVQ or HNC in Health & Social Care or equivalent at level 3 or higher.
  • Possession of a recognised counselling or substance misuse qualification, and/or about to start anaccredited counselling or substance misuse qualification.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in relation to Substance Misuse service provision

  • Diploma/Certificate in Drug & Alcohol Studies; or
evidence of working towards the above or equivalent.
  • Any qualification in a criminal justice, child protection or health & social care related subject.

Work Experience /
  • At least one year's post-qualification experience of working within thefield of substance misuse.
  • Experience of child protection joint working.
  • Experience of caseload management.
  • Conducting holistic assessment and care planning of individuals with substance misuse issues.
  • Experience of multi-agency and partnership working.

7. PVG / DISCLOSURE INFORMATION

Signpost Recovery complies fully with the Disclosure Scotland Code of Practice, issued by Scottish Ministers, in connection with the use of information provided to registered persons and other recipients of information by Disclosure Scotland under Part V of the Police Act 1997, or the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 for the purposes of assessing applicants' suitability for positions of trust. Therefore, Signpost Recovery has determined that this post is classed as undertaking restricted work with protected adults that must be covered by the successful candidate having undertaken a satisfactory- PVG Scheme Record for Restricted Work with Protected Adults.

Furthermore,should you fail to complete your probationary period, you will be expected to meet the cost of Signpost Recovery applying for and administering their PVG application. Whilst this is subject to pricing beyond that of our control and may rise at any time, the cost for the administration and fees associated with a new application to join PVG are £59 and the costs for an existing member to have a Scheme Record Update are £18.
