Job Title: ACI Flexible ESOL Provision Tutor/Support

Hours: Full time (35 hours per week)

Work Base: To cover Cardiff area, work base Coopers Yard

Reporting to: ESOL Manager

Salary: MG1-MG4

Job Purpose:

  1. To teach on the ACI Flexible ESOL Provision project
  1. To provide support to other ESOL tutors from within Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales and within agreed partner agencies working on the ACI Flexible ESOL Provision to ensure high quality ESOL delivery.
  1. To work with the ESOL manager to build and maintain a good working relationship with project partners to safeguard the success of the project
  1. To ensure that all evidence and information is handled according to project and awarding body regulations and requirements

Length of contract: Fixed term until the end of March 2018 – with a possible extension until the end of March 2019

Main duties and responsibilities

  1. Teach/Assess up to 20 hours a week at multiple venues to be decided in negotiation with ESOL manager on an ongoing basis. This may include evening or weekend work and/or periods outside the academic year, that is to say, a teaching timetable all year round.
  1. Deliver high quality teaching and learning, matching the quality standards set out by the Welsh Assembly Government.
  1. Plan and prepare appropriate teaching and learning resources, including lesson plans and schemes of work, to enable learners to achieve and attain excellence.
  1. Support and extend learners’ experience by introducing a range of cross cutting themes, including use of technology, visits outside the classroom and appropriate encouragement and promotion of the Welsh culture and referral to other supporting provision/learning opportunities.
  1. Be individually responsible for relevant project completion, attainment and successful completion targets relating to all of the provision delivered by yourself.
  1. Carry out interviews with ACI beneficiaries, as required, following their initial assessment at the REACH Centre in order to allocate a place on one of the project courses.
  1. To assist with the project’s administration requirements to ensure project compliance and success.
  1. Be responsible for communicating relevant project required information relating to teaching and learning delivery to both internal and external contacts as appropriate to the project regulations and requirements.
  1. Be responsible for monitoring of learner performance, including attendance, and any learner absence/disciplinary procedures, and report regularly to the ESOL manager by means of completed registers, support tracking forms and all other administration requirements, including those related to the quality standard procedures and project requirements.
  1. In consultation with the ESOL manager be responsible for the induction, initial assessment, negotiation and completion of work plans, enrolment, registration and completion and review of ILPs in accordance with project requirements.
  1. Participate in regular delivery/project team meetings including the following up on actions/decisions recorded/agreed at team meetings
  1. Be jointly responsible for organising and occasionally lead on appropriate meetings and internal verification including providing training to internal staff and external partners as required.-
  1. Assist ESOL manager with session timetabling and room booking etc. to enable delivery of provision within given project defined parameters.
  1. To support the ESOL manager to ensure the transfer and management of information from the REACH element of the project to Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales and then between Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales and other delivery partners works as effectively as possible.
  1. Be responsible for the requesting, issue and return of learner resources as appropriate to the learner needs and requirements and in line with Addysg Oedolion Cymru | Adult Learning Wales procedures.
  1. Provide instruction/demonstration support for individual and/or groups of learners and staff accessing learning resources as appropriate to need and availability.
  1. Attend external events as appropriate and undertake any other reasonable duties as may be requested from time to time by the ESOL manager including cover for other staff.
  1. To work in accordance with the Data Protection Act and to ensure that all data protection concerns are reported to the organisations Data Protection Controller and in accordance with given project requirements.
  1. To comply with all organisational and project policies & procedures, keeping abreast of changes and making any necessary changes to administrative systems to ensure compliance.
  1. To ensure the safe working practices are used and appropriate Health & Safety and Equal Opportunity legislation are adopted.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS / Teaching qualification equivalent to level 3
AND
Any one of the following:
Level 3 or above Literacy Practitioner Qualifications
  • CELTA
  • DELTA
  • TESOL
  • ES Skills L3 in ESOL
/ Adult Education Guidance qualification
Internal Quality Assurance Qualification
Relevant IT Qualifications at advanced level
PGCE
EXPERIENCE / Experience of community education, adult education and ESOL provision delivery
Experience of curriculum and assessment design including teaching and learning materials development
Experience of the implementation and participation in internal quality procedures
Experience of working in partnership, and networking with other agencies in the voluntary, community and statutory sector / Experience of delivering educational courses using blended learning methodologies
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE / Excellent Interpersonal and Communication skills
Excellent organisational, coordinating and administrative skills
Comprehensive IT skills including use of all basic office software packages
Able to work as part of a team and on own initiative
Able to develop good working relationships with people at all levels, including with community groups

Capacity to motivate and stimulate non traditional learners
