JOB PROFILE – FOUNDATION PHASE TEACHER

Required: An educator with experience in curriculum and assessment for the Foundation Phase.

  • A working knowledge of current curricular trends is essential as is creativity and motivation in the classroom and an ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • The Educator will engage in academic, administrative, educational, disciplinary, extra and co-curricular activities in order to promote proper development of students in accordance with the philosophy of the school.

Commencement date: January 2017.

Requirements:

  • A willingness to support the Future Nation Schools ethos
  • A suitable degree
  • SACE registration
  • A minimum of three years’ experience teaching in the Foundation Phase
  • Excellent English verbal and written skills
  • A team-player with considerable interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate with, the relevant age group
  • Flexibility and the ability to respond positively to change and have a reflective attribute.
  • Able to incorporate technology into their teaching practice, show creativity and motivation in the classroom and work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to participate in the school’s multi-faceted extra-mural programme
  • Have excellent classroom management skills and the ability to create a safe learning environment.
  • Be in possession of a Clearance Certificate in terms of the Sexual Offenders Register

Academic Duties:

  • To engage in class teaching which will foster a purposeful progression in learning and which
  • is consistent with the subject, grade or phase programme
  • To prepare lessons taking into account all current and relevant information
  • To take a leadership role in respect of subject, grade or phase, if required
  • To plan, co-ordinate, control, administer, evaluate and report on student’s academic progress
  • To recognise that learning is an active process and be prepared to use a variety of strategies to
  • meet the outcomes of the curriculum
  • To establish a classroom environment which stimulates positive learning and actively engagesstudents in the learning process
  • To design projects for students
  • To consider and utilise the students’ own experiences as a fundamental and valuable resource
  • To meet with all stakeholders and discuss conduct and progress of students
  • To attend parent evenings and parent forums as required
  • To check each student’s homework diary and sign
  • To attend staff meetings and carry out all duties as allocated and requested

Administrative duties:

  • To co-ordinate and control all the academic activities of each subject taught to maintain a good teaching standard
  • To develop and manage learning resources
  • Control and co-ordinate stock and equipment which is used and required
  • To make sure all assessments, books and files go to grade head
  • To deal with or refer (where necessary), various problems with students
  • To complete observation sheets and check all reports for class
  • To foster administrative efficiency within the school
  • To complete registers and deal with and report serious instances of absenteeism, late coming to relevant grade head
  • To complete documents for profiles and keep profiles up to date

Extra and Co-curricular duties:

  • To participate in educator appraisal and developmental programmes that will improve
  • teaching, learning and management
  • To share knowledge, ideas, resources and current developments with colleagues
  • To participate in, organise, and conduct extra and co-curricular activities
  • To participate in committees, seminars and courses that will enhance, contribute to and update
  • school and professional standards
  • To become involved in public and community projects on behalf of the school
