DESCRIPTION

Resolves disputes between workers and managers, administers and interprets collective bargaining contracts, or coordinates grievance procedures to resolve employee complaints.

Some positions in this occupation may be responsible for coordinating work and supervising employees.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Supervises employees by assigning work, reviewing progress and assessing performance.

Advises management on matters related to the administration of negotiated contracts or employee discipline or grievance procedures.

Coordinates labor relations activities and advises management on administrative matters.

Prepares labor relations reports and documents.

Develops and/or recommends policies, methods, and procedures for addressing employee grievances and complaints.

Researches and analyzes employees' grievances/complaints and makes recommendations.

Calls or meet with union, agencies, legislature or other interested parties to discuss labor relations matters, such as contract negotiations or grievances.

Drafts contract proposals or counter-proposals for collective bargaining or other labor negotiations.

Drafts rules or regulations to govern collective bargaining activities in collaboration with agency or employee representatives.

Identifies alternatives to proposals of unions, employees, or agencies.

Interprets contractual agreements for employers and employees engaged in collective bargaining or other labor relations processes.

Investigates and evaluate union complaints or arguments to determine viability.

Mediates discussions between employer and employee representatives in attempt to reconcile differences.

Monitors adherence to collective bargaining agreements.

Participates in the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements.

Interprets human resource laws, rules and regulations.

Coordinates and directs the work of other employees.
