Explanation of IFA booklist(for September 2013 starters)

Dear students,

With this letter I would like to give you information about the booklist and readerlist you will have to use when studying in the international first year. At ArnhemBusinessSchool an academic year is divided in two semesters with corresponding clusters, A and B cluster. Since you will be starting in A-cluster you should only purchase the books that are mentioned under A-cluster (IFA-A00) in the list!

On the list you will see a module code and then two names, for example: ABP-BSP1C Business Plan - Business Plan 1C. The first code is the code of the study unit, the first name is the name of the study unit the module is in and the second name is the name of the module itself. A study unit consists of several modules. This might sound a bit confusing now, but for ordering the books it is not that important. Once you start studying here you will find out the significance of study units etc!

Please note that there are more books on the list than you will need! This concerns the books needed for the different languages we offer. You should order all of the books on the list for IFA-A00 except for the books of the languages you did not choose to study!!

Some books have been listed twice because you will use them during two periods (1 semester consists of two periods).

On the list you will find a profile test called HBDI-test. Taking the test is part of the TPM class. You pay the fee for this test directly to your TPM trainer (training personal management).

Students who have chosen French please pay extra attention!! French is offered as a (lower)intermediate course (A2 level). Students must have some knowledge of French and the right motivation to be able to complete the courses successfully.

Students who have chosen German please pay extra attention!! German is offered as an intermediate course. In order to assess your level and determine your acceptance to the course, students have to do an online intake before they arrive at ABS. If you cannot enter the German course you must choose another foreign language. Therefore it is wise to wait buying the books until you know if you have been accepted to the course. However, do make sure you have the books when classes start so you are prepared!

Students who have chosen Dutch or Spanish will start at beginner’s level and should just buy the ones on the list!

How to order the books?

For students living in the Netherlands, Belgium or Germany:

You can order your books online at Use the textbooks search tool. Select Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen (HAN)– Arnhem – HAN Arnhem Business School – IFA.After you have filled in an automatic payment form online, your books will be sent to your home address. Maximum shipping costs are 4.75 euro (check website).

Of course you are free to purchase your books in any other bookstore.

Please note that the availability of the book for ABP-RST1D, Research and Statistics 1, is only limited. In February 2014 the IFA curriculum will change and therefore we have decided not to use the latest edition of the book. The book on the list is the previous edition. Do try and purchase this book second hand. If you don’t succeed you can buy a specially printed book (black and white, only chapters you study in class) from us. The cost will be around 40 euro. A second hand full colour book will cost the same so do try and get one.

For all other foreign students:

You cannot order books online, as they cannot be sent to a foreign address other than in Belgium and Germany! However, you can buy the books directly at the ‘study store’ shop on campus! You can pay cash or with your bank card and pin number. The shop is located in the Engineering building (R26) and the address is: Ruitenberglaan 26, 6826 CC, Arnhem, 026-3638990. Their stocks should be sufficient!

Lastly, lecturers also make use of so-called readers (materials they have made themselves). You will also find a reader list attached. You can buy the readers in the campus shop in the FEM building (when you enter through the main entrance on your left).

I hope this explanation has clarified things for you and that you will be able to buy your books without any problems! If you have any questions please contact our admissions office at

Kind Regards,

Pauline Sleven

IFA Coordinator (International First Year Arnhem)
