General Description
The Nightwatch represents GRC / Uniworld policies and procedures and is a key "front line" contact for the guest to reach the maximum guest satisfaction. Similar to duties at the front desk of a fine hotel, the night watch provides guest services, information, runs the night audit, assists with resolving minor guest complaints and any additional administrative duties that may be assigned by the Purser. He/She maintains safety and quietness in guest and crew areas and is familiar with safety and security GRC regulations.
The night watch maintains a calm, courteous and professional demeanor at all times regardless of the guest's behavior. At times, the job may be stressful due to interaction with many different people with different types of personalities, and being expected to perform multiple tasks quickly.
Personal qualities that a night watch is expected to have in order to do the job successfully include: attentiveness, a well groomed appearance, initiative, loyalty, maturity, respect for confidentiality and discretion, a positive attitude and dependability.
Responsibilities
Safety
- Safety rounds every hour checking doors and windows (closed), kitchen appliances (switched off) and sauna or whirlpool (nobody is in). If the sauna is occupied, check every half hour
- When moored overnight: checking mooring, gangways and lighting
- During night departures: ensuring that all guests and crew are onboard and operating the alarm system
F/O, B/O
- Co-responsible for the entire Front Office, including impeccable cleanliness and tidiness (this applies to Back Office too). Handling IT devices and all other available equipment properly
- Following up any guest need, wish or minor complaint handed to the Front Desk (“You claim it, you own it”). Reporting all complaints or special requests to the Purser
- Realization of all onboard printed information as per GRC lay out: Daily Programs, Menus, Signs, etc
- Micros and Fidelio work: guest checks, checking and printing accounts, new cruise’s preparation, night audits
Additional duties
- Early Bird Breakfast preparations and set up (baking Danish pastries, arrange coffee station...)
- Participation at all kind of safety drills, according to Captain’s orders
- Inform Captain and/or Hotel Manager in case of danger, extraordinary cases, disturbance or misbehavior by crew or guest
- Must be equipped with a torch and walkie talkie
- Help when needed with loadings and with the luggage on embarkation/disembarkation day
- Lock away the Tip Box during the night on disembarkation days
- Preparatory duties prior to the season as at the end of the season
- A Shoe shine service will be extended to the suites to which the night auditor will be responsible
- Your report to the 2nd captain for Safety & Security matters
