Responsible to:Senior Care Workers

Salary Scale:SJC Scale 15 – 26 (£17,502 – £23,430) (dependent on qualifications) and generous pension scheme.

Working Hours:37.5 hours per week (Monday to Sunday shift pattern) Part time/weekend and Sessional Hours available.

Location: You are required to work at the School and also at the four bungalows on

Lendrick Muir Estate at Rumbling Bridge.

Duties and Responsibilities:

To provide an environment where the children can develop their social skills and be encouraged to develop their full potential. To enable and encourage the children to try, and not to be afraid of failure.

Key Operational Functions/Duties:

  • Assessing need, and planning and implementing the individualised care plan (ICP)
  • Promote the child’s social, emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual needs
  • Held the child develop interactive and practice skills, confidence and self-esteem, problem solving and conflict resolving abilities
  • Increase the child’s awareness of the effects and consequences of behaviour and assist them to acknowledge, accept responsibility for, alter and make reparation for behaviour and actions which have been disruptive or destructive
  • Extend the nature and range of leisure time pursuits, skills, achievements and interests; thus offering motivation to change from previous destructive patterns and develop alternatives to them
  • Maintaining case records and files, and preparing reports
  • Liaising with external agencies and contributing to child care reviews, children’s hearings, family meetings
  • Co-working with external agencies, e.g. educational psychologists, social workers, doctors, dentists etc
  • Supervising the child’s management of money, health and hygiene, personal belongings and diet
  • Contributing to the review and monitoring of services and future planning
  • Ensuring the health and safety of the children
  • Implementing the policies and procedures of he School
  • Recognising the confidential nature of the work ad acting appropriately
  • Participating in the supervision and appraisal programme
  • Undertaking appropriate training when opportunities occur
  • To undertake sleep in duties on a rota basis
  • To undertake any other duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties and responsibilities / grade of the post as defined.

Person Specification

Experience:
  • 1-2 years in a similar role preferred
  • Must demonstrate track record in ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
  • Must demonstrate clean track record of ability to work with children
  • Must have a clean driving licence

Education:
  • Should be qualified to HNC/SVQIII Level in Social Care (for Full-time/Part-time)

Professional Registration:

  • You will be required to hold current SSSC registration.
