Accountable toVicar and PCC

The purpose of this job is to support the aims and visions of St Edyth's Church by providing practical and administrative support through the Parish office to the clergy and church members.

The duties below give an initial indication of the areas in which we envisage you may be involved in, but we recognise that the role will evolve over time and in close collaboration with the Vicar and PCC.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • To work with the Vicar in establishing effective communications and administration systems with the church members and beyond including rotas, the weekly news sheet, email, shared calendars and website and establishing a parish directory for church members
  • Managing notice boards and designing information leaflets, ensuring they are tidy, up-to-date and eye-catching
  • To assist with general administration, including typing letters, photocopying, filing, sending post and purchasing supplies
  • Working with the treasurer on monthly book keeping, managing incoming and outgoing payments.
  • Co-ordinating bookings for funerals, baptisms, weddings and other church events
  • Helping in the scheduling and organising of regular church events throughout the year, including co-ordinating meetings with the events co-ordinator
  • Regular liaison with the Vicar, Churchwardens, other staff, stewards and volunteers to ensure the effective day to day running of the church
  • Some knowledge of Safeguarding and Health and Safety requirements, or a willingness to learn

  • Knowledge of Church life and being prayerfully supportive of the aims of St Edyth’s in glorifying God through Worship, Mission and Discipleship
  • Someone of integrity and honesty
  • A team player and good interpersonal and communication skills, yet also with the ability to work independently
  • Discreet and able to maintain confidentiality
  • A “people person” both face-to-face and on the phone. Able to handle interruptions in the church office in a way that is both courteous and professional
  • Highly organised, creative and resourceful
  • Uses initiative to anticipate tasks which need to be completed

Computer skills

  • Proficient using the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with publishing software package (e.g. Publisher) or basic skills at producing leaflets, advertising etc.
