Our Statement of Purpose is:

To provide a Charity Shop retail service to the community which is effectively and efficiently managed in a customer friendly manner, in order to maximise retail profits and provide the highest level of funding possible in support of the palliative care and support work provided by St Luke’s Hospice to it’s patients and the family, carers and friends of the patients.

CONTROLS ASSURANCE STATEMENT

The purpose of this job description is to outline the level of responsibility and accountability of this post. This will ensure that all work undertaken by our staff is identified and lines of accountability made clear

POST TITLE:SHOP MANAGER *6 MONTHS MATERNITY COVER*

SALARY:£17,000 PER ANNUMPRO RATA

ACCOUNTABLE TO:CHIEF EXECUTIVE

RESPONSIBLE TO:HEAD OF TRADING AND RETAIL DEVELOPMENT

HOURS OF WORK:37.5 HOURS PER WEEKMonday to Saturday working 3 out of 4 Saturdays

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Applicants must be flexible with working hours and be prepared to work in other geographical areas, namely: Basildon,Billericay, Corringham, Grays, Pitsea, South Ockendon, Wickford, and Tilbury.

  1. Security-

a)Responsible for opening/closing store

b)Ensure all doors, shutters, windows are locked & secure

c)Set/unset shop alarm

d)Ensure no unnecessary utilities remain on/running over night

  1. Financial–

a)Be responsible for cashiering

b)Daily banking of takings

c)Reconciliations ie. Till over ring corrections, petty cash, Z reads, refunds, credit notes, till float etc

  1. Administration–

a)Accurate completion of shop ‘Daily Record Sheet’ ensuring all daily figures tally, prior to month end handover to Area Manager

b)Accurate & timely completion of all store documentation ie. Staff Purchase Sheet, Staff Time Sheet, Sickness Form, Holiday Form etc. Diarise relevant events in shop diary

  1. Health & Safety–

a)Be responsible for staff, customer and shop H&S issues.

b)Report immediately to Area Manager/Head of Trading H&S issues you cannot resolve.

c)Ensure the implementation and adherence to Health and Safety Regulations and similar legislation

d)Induct new staff & complete paperwork

e)Ensure Accident Book is correctly filled out (when necessary)

f)Test fire systems every Monday anddiarise

  1. PC literacy - Knowledge of MS Word, Outlook & Internet Explorer
  1. Gift Aid – Responsible for managing the Gift Aid process in store & online
  1. Communication–

a)Ensure all relevant information, training, ideas and processes are discussed & understood with your staff/volunteers.

b)Handle customer/staff issues in a professional & diplomatic manner

c)Maintain & update shop policies folder

d)Liaise with Area Manager/Volunteer Co-ordinator on staff/volunteer shortages

e)Daily liaison with Warehouse Manager regarding stock requirements

f)Be a good representative of the Hospice and ensure good customer relationships

g)Company business is to remain confidential outside of working hours

  1. Maintenance – Report all maintenance requirements to Head of Trading
  1. Shop & Display –

a)Provide creative & eye-catching displays to increase footfall & maximise profits

b)Ensure all articles for sale are correctly priced

c)Maintain a high standard of general house-keeping

d)Keep displays fully stocked, presentable & priced

e)Rotate stock as required

f)Ensure that the shop is run efficiently/economically and in keeping with Company Policies and Procedures

g)Foster good working relations with staff, volunteers & customers

h)Responsible for staff/volunteer rotas

  1. To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably allocated by the Area Manager / Head of Trading and Retail Department and within the competence of the post holder

QUALIFICATIONS / Good general education
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE / Proven retail experience at supervisory/managerial level
Demonstrable people management skills
Good customer focus / Experience of Charity Shop retail work
Ability to work under pressure
SKILLS /KNOWLEDGE / Good knowledge of retail practices, trends and legislation
Good leadership & management skills
Good communication skills both oral and written
Effective team member/team builder
Ability to work on own initiative / Awareness & understanding of voluntary sector
Ability to train and teach others
