JOB DESCRIPTION – Junior Black SticksCoaching Staff

Responsible to:Hockey New Zealand High Performance Director

Key Relationships: High Performance Director, Team Services Manager, Junior Black Sticks Coach, Junior Black Sticks Support Staff, Junior Black Sticks Squad Members

Contract Term:January 2017December 2018. HNZ is entitled to terminate the position of Junior Black Sticks Assistant Coach at any time.

Remuneration:This is an unpaid position.

HNZ will cover the cost of travel, accommodation and meals for camps and tours.

A daily allowance will be paid for camp and tour work.

Junior Black SticksThe Junior Black Sticks is a squad based programme, targeting athletes who are capable of transitioning into the Black Sticks programme within a 2 – 5 year window.

Main Objective:

To assist the Junior Black Sticks coach with the selection, preparation, coaching and performance of the Junior Black Sticks and the teams’ results in international competition
Key Tasks / Desired Outcomes
1. / Assist with the delivery of a hockey-led, coach-driven, athlete-focussed programme within the High Performance budget. / Effective programme delivery within budget.
2. / Assist with the identification and monitoring of elite players capable of becoming Black Sticks in the future / Players identified and monitored to ensure peak performance.
3. / Assist with the preparation of the Junior Black Sticks for competition in the Junior World Cup through training camps and build-up matches with ultimate goal of winning the tournament. / Win targeted international competitions
4. / Establish necessary communication channels with Hockey New Zealand, other JBS support staff, selectors, players and personnel outside of Hockey New Zealand to effectively monitor the progression of identified players. / Communication channels established and used effectively.
5. / Assist with the development and management of a well organised and effective training camp programme. / Maximum benefit achieved from camps for individuals and the team.
6. / Assist other JBS Coaching staff with the coaching and preparation of the Junior Black Sticks team and individual team members during organised match series. / Winning performances.
Individual and team development
7. / Attend nominated under-age tournaments and be available for any other camps or events where the Junior Black Sticks players are involved. / Junior Black Sticks players are monitored.
8. / Ensure Hockey New Zealand is not bought into disrepute and no public criticism is made of any Hockey New Zealand policy issues. / Correct channels are utilised to express views
