JOB DESCRIPTION: SCOUT/HOUSEKEEPING STAFF

Principal responsibilities

Reporting to the Head Housekeeper,

DAILY

  1. The Housekeepers are to enter every room in their care, unless bins are out, in which case on day 2 the Housekeepers should enter to check the student’s welfare.
  2. The Housekeepers are to empty wastepaper bins, air the room if necessary, and clean the wash-hand basin.
  3. The Housekeepers are to clean designated toilets, bathrooms/showers and ensure they are adequately equipped.

WEEKLY

  1. The Housekeepers are to give all rooms a thorough clean by dusting, wiping and polishing exposed surfaces and vacuuming the floor.
  2. The Housekeepers are to ensure no foodstuffs are perishing.
  3. The Housekeepers are to clean and sweep designated corridors and passages.
  4. The Housekeepers are to liaise with the Head Housekeeper regarding linen requirements.
  5. The Housekeepers are expected to report for collection of cleaning materials to the House Manager (every fortnight).

During the conference season, rooms will be fully serviced daily and beds made.

The Housekeepers are expected to let the Dean or Chaplain know, directly or through your Line Manager/s, if they have any concerns about the welfare of any of the students resident in their areas of responsibility.

Housekeepers are required to report any breaches of College rules 8.1-8.4 to the Dean, directly or through your Line Manager/s.

Housekeepers are to report any damage to College property and report any Maintenance to be carried out to the Clerk of Works, directly or through your Line Manager/s.

Terms and conditions of employment

You will be employed by BalliolCollege initially on a six-month probationary period. During this period your employment may be terminated by one week's notice on either side. Thereafter the period of notice to terminate your employment is one month. A formal contract of employment will be issued in due course.

Your salary will be £6.05 an hour (rising to £6.30 per hour on completion of satisfactory probation) for a 20-hour week, paid monthly in arrears by credit transfer. There is also a discretionary annual bonus paid in November.

Your hours of work will be 8am to 12noon, Monday to Friday. You are entitled to a 15-minute break every morning, as directed by the Head Housekeeper. There may be overtime opportunities. An overall will be provided.

Your paid holidays, during the College closed periods, will be allowed as follows:

Easter: About ten days (including normal off-duty days and public holidays, plus weekends where applicable)

Summer: Three weeks (including normal off-duty days and public holidays, plus weekends where applicable)

Christmas:About ten days (including normal off-duty days and public holidays, plus weekends where applicable)

You will be eligible to join the generous Oxford University Staff Pension Scheme, which is a contributory final salary scheme.

You will normally be required to work from Broad Street, Oxford, OX1 3BJ or at any other BalliolCollege site within Oxford.

Your immediate Line Manager will be the Head Housekeeper. The College Officer responsible for the department will be the Accommodation Manager.
