Job Description: Program Manager, Animal Husbandry and Horticulture

The Urban Farm is seeking a full-time, or substantially full time Program Manager to join our staff. The Urban Farm is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide “experiential learning and practical work experience to young people in a farm setting. Our purpose is to inspire excitement for learning while fostering personal confidence, resilience, teamwork and real-world problem solving skills.”.

Its primary program areas are:

·  Equestrian Education

·  Animal Husbandry

·  Horticulture

The Program Manager, Animal Husbandry and Horticulture reports to the Executive Director and is responsible, in collaboration with other staff, for the design and delivery of The Urban Farm’s (TUF) educational programs in animal husbandry and horticulture.

The Equestrian Program Manager is responsible for the design and delivery of the equine education program.

Specific Responsibilities of the Program Manger, Animal Husbandry and Horticulture include:

·  Planning and delivering animal husbandry and horticultural programs such as field trips, workshops, camps, and other educational programs related that are aligned with the organization’s mission and goals

·  Working with the Equine Program Manager and Executive Director to coordinate service learning and other partnership arrangements with partner organizations

·  Collaborating with TUF staff and Board of Directors in the planning and execution of the annual “Farmfest” special event

·  Recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers assisting in the animal husbandry and horticultural educational programs

·  Preparing, managing, and monitoring animal husbandry and horticultural program budgets,

·  Preparing regular and timely reports on programs for use by the Executive Director and Board of Directors

·  Compiling and analyzing statistical information on program participation

·  Providing program information to assist in the development of grant proposals

·  Involvement with TUF staff and Board of Directors in outreach and development efforts.

Qualifications

·  Degree in animal science, agriculture, agribusiness, agricultural education, or a related field

·  Demonstrated experience in educational programming related to agriculture

·  Demonstrated experience with livestock animals (cattle, swine, ruminants, poultry)

·  A passion for The Urban Farm’s mission

·  Good written and verbal communications skills

·  Experience in basic computer skills and programs

·  A positive attitude

·  Demonstrated ability to work well with other staff, partner organizations, volunteers, and stakeholders

·  Willingness to work on weekends
