Job Description – Political Adviser (POLAD)

Division: Head of Mission’s Office

Reports to: Head of Mission

Duties and responsibilities for POLAD

· Act as the Head of Mission’s primary adviser on strategic- and political aspects of the mission’s work.

· Monitor political developments with a specific focus on events within - or affecting - TIPH’s Area of

Responsibility (AOR).

· Update and advise HOM and relevant mission staff on political developments affecting the mission,

ranging from local political issues within the AOR to broader developments in Israel/Palestinian Territories

and the Middle East.

· Be a member of, and take part in meetings with, the Senior Management Group (SMG)

· Draft and provide reports and summaries to HOM and the SMG on political developments in (or affecting)

the region and their possible implications for TIPH.

· Draft, provide, and present reports on significant developments within the AOR to HOM, SMG and

representatives of the TIPH member countries.

· Support the mission’s strategic planning efforts by formulating and drafting policies and strategies on

issues related to the mission’s activities, its efficiency and adherence/utilization of the mission mandate.

· Support HOM in his/her efforts to maintain good working relations talking points and letters and

maintaining a network of relevant contacts in Hebron.

· Provide guidance and training to relevant TIPH staff on the political structures and developments relevant

to the work of the mission.

· Support the HOM in ensuring the quality of reports and other publications produced by the mission.

· Perform other tasks related to the political environment in which TIPH operates as requested by HOM.

Required qualifications

Educational background

· Advanced university degree preferably in Middle Eastern Studies

· In-depth understanding of the Israeli/Palestinian-conflict and Middle Eastern Politics

Practical experience

· At least 6 years of professional experience from relevant field, ideally in a Political Adviser or Political

Analyst position

· Computer literacy

Language proficiency required

· Excellent written and oral English skills

· Working knowledge of Arabic and/or Hebrew is an asset

· Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in

a multi-cultural setting

· Respect and understanding for the culture of the work place

· Ability to work and communicate with an international team

· Ability to work independently while at the same time as a member of a team

· Ability to work under pressure, and still act with calm and resolve

Further details

· All TIPH members must be at least 24 years of age, and have held a valid driver's license for at least two

years.

· All TIPH members can be asked to perform any task at the request of HOM.
