JOB DESCRIPTION – FUNDRAISING ASSISTANT

This is a position established to help the Association deal with all incoming fundraising inquiries in an expeditious and friendly manner. It helps the Association cope with a rising volume of inquiries from supporters.

Hours involved:

We are looking for someone able to work from home for 15 hours a week – though more hours may become available as the job progresses. The hours are flexible, to suit domestic arrangements.

Aptitude requirements:

Ready access to a computer, a main line (not mobile) home phone and printer is essential, with the ability to respond to emails, letters and phone calls quickly, professionally and on own initiative. The assistant will be part of a small central team. The ability to maintain good relationships with supporters and the team is essential; an ability to get on with people and developed friendships is highly prized. We will also be looking for an ability to distinguish between inquiries which can be handled in their entirety and on one's own initiative and those which require assistance from others in the team.

Details:

1. The Fundraising Assistant will generally be the first contact for all incoming fundraising inquiries. We would expect the home phone number of the Fundraising Assistant to appear on the ME Association website, in our ME Essential magazine and on any fundraising materials produced by the Association.

2. The Fundraising Assistant will generally handle all inquiries relating to routine sponsored events, requests for information about how to make donations to the Association, requests for collecting boxes, etc. Arrangements to handle unusual projects will be made with the Publicity Manager.

3. The Fundraising Assistant will monitor all activity connected with our online fundraising site at and offer support to online supporters in order to maximise the returns to the Association. In addition the fundraiser will monitor and promote fundraising on the Association’s Facebook page and through other available media.

4. The Fundraising Assistant will keep a record of fundraising activities.

5. The Fundraising Assistant will work alongside the Publicity Manager and liase with her/him.

6. The Fundraising Assistant will receive office stationery and printed fundraising materials from the Buckingham office, who on request will dispatch complementary T-shirts, running vests and other appropriate supplies to supporters.

7. From time to time, the Fundraising Assistant will need to be in touch with other team members for assistance and support.

8. At quiet times, the Fundraising Assistant will be expected to research fundraising opportunities which might usefully be followed up by the Association.

9. We don't envisage any travel requirement for this post.

Payment:

The job is intended to be for a period of 12 months followingan initial three months probationary period in order that the ME Association is satisfied as to the suitability of the chosen applicant. The pay rate will be £9 per hour.

Expenses:

All reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be paid monthly in arrears. Claims should be sent on authorised claims forms to the Office Manager. Out-of-pocket expenses would routinely include cost of phone calls, stamps, computer paper and inkjet cartridges. Any unusual items to be cleared in advance with the Office Manager.
