Hours: / 36.25 hours per week. Worked on an annualised hours contract.
Contract: / 12 month fixed term contract.
Salary: / £13,650 per annum (Pro rata 40 weeks per annum)
Location: / The post holder will be based at the Students’ Union’s Catering facility at the Ormskirk campus of the University.

Purpose:

·  Oversee the day to day running of the catering operation through sound supervision of staff

·  Ensure that all catering areas adhere to health & safety, food hygiene, COSHH and HACCAP regulations and that the food management system is up to date and reviewed on a regular basis

·  To ensure the meals that are served meet a very high standard

Duties and Responsibilities:

Management

·  Ensure all catering operations within the Students’ Union are run in an orderly and disciplined manner in accordance with the conditions of the councils licensing office, EHSU policy and Health and Safety requirements.

·  To be responsible for the safe and secure storage of all goods, including stock, in the building.

·  To have responsibility for the effective and efficient supervision of student staff working within EHSU Catering, ensuring all staff work as an effective team.

·  Actively promote an open communication process with all colleagues.

·  To aid the development of a customer service focused culture.

·  Maintain proper records and management information.

Operational

·  Ensure high levels of cleanliness and hygiene in all areas of the premises.

·  To be responsible for all food preparation for the day’s food business.

·  To ensure that all foodstuffs are handled appropriately and stored at the required levels.

·  Prepare the required number of food products, following specified menus

·  Ensure portion control and nutritional standards are met

·  To devise and monitor guidelines on portion control and minimisation of waste

·  Maintain appropriate administrative and recording documentation

·  Ensure kitchen equipment is used, cleaned and monitored correctly

·  To ensure all food is served with the correct tools and is well presented

·  Assist the Chef with developing and implementing an exciting diverse menu

·  When required, to act as cashier and be responsible for cash in the appropriate till, adhering to the Students’ Union’s financial procedures.

·  Adhere to all Health and Safety and Food Safety regulations

·  To ensure cleaning duties are completed following daily and weekly rotas, to

ensure health and safety and hygiene standards are maintained

·  Assist in other duties as may be requested by a senior member of the commercial management team.

Finances and Resources

·  To be responsible for ensuring compliance with EHSU financial procedures including stock and cash control.

·  Be responsible for ensuring the proper and safe operation of equipment.

·  To be responsible for the maintenance and care of equipment, fixtures and fittings and fabric of the premises.

Health, Safety and Environment

·  Ensure Health and Safety legislation is adhered to at all times.

·  Act responsibly at all times with reference to the environmental impact of your duties and by adhering to union policy and good practice.

·  Offer the highest possible quality customer service through attention to detail and high quality presentation.

·  To ensure all areas are clean and tidy.

External Liaison, Colleagues & Partners

· Partners – our customers, external companies and organisations, Edge Hill SU Trustees and Staff, University departments and staff.

General

· To ensure all areas comply with relevant legislative provisions including Health and Safety, Health and Hygiene licensing law.

· All work to be done in line with Students’ Union policies and procedures.

· To undertake other duties appropriate for the grade and responsibilities of the post that may from time to time be reasonably requested which may include evening and weekend work.
