  1. Liaison with:Headteacher and all staff
  1. Purpose of the JobTo provide a comprehensive HR service in liaison with the Headteacher, Business Manager and Essex HR Services
  1. Duties:

6.1To manage the recruitment process including preparing interviewer packs, booking rooms and filing of interview paperwork

6.2To manage new starter administration from offer letter through to joining instructions and induction. This will include seeking references, medical clearances, Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) applications, and UK Border sponsorship applications where necessary. Ensuring the necessary monitoring data is prepared and submitted.

6.3Maintain the School’s Single central record ensuring that safeguarding requirements are met fully.

6.4To compile new joiner offer packs and induction packs

6.5Ensure probationary reviews for support staff are carried out in a timely and effective way

6.6To maintain human resources data management on SIMS, to undertake checking and to provide reports as required for statutory returns such as the School Workforce Census.

6.7To maintain staff personal records files, including an up to date record of job descriptions, ensuring they are secure and that data is handled in accordance with statutory provisions and school policies.

6.8Handle maternity, paternity, parental and adoption leave, leave of absence processes and queries

6.9Provide support for investigations in disciplinary and grievance procedures.

6.10Assist with the development and maintenance of human resources policies and procedures.

6.11Advise the Headteacher, Business Manager, Governors and staff (in consultation with Essex CC HR Services) on the application of school employment policies and procedures.

6.12Attend training and Personnel Surgeries provided by ECC

6.13Liaise with the Finance Manager to produce the relevant documents for the payroll provider following appointments, promotions or other changes in a timely manner.

6.14Manage the sickness absence and maintain a monitoring and return to work system.

6.15To maintain confidentiality and Data Protection adherence at all times

6.16To clerk the Governing Body Staffing Committee meetings.

7.General

7.1To participate in the performance and development review process, taking personal responsibility for identification of learning, development and training opportunities in discussion with line manager.

7.2To comply with individual responsibilities, in accordance with the role, for health & safety in the workplace

7.3Ensure that all duties and services provided are in accordance with the School’s Equal Opportunities Policy

PERSON SPECIFICATION : HR Officer

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications, skills and experience / An excellent command of spoken and written English and with well-developed interpersonal skills
Knowledge and understanding of relevant HR policies and procedures / Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD)
Experience of working in a school or in an environment related to education, and with an understanding of general school policies and procedures.
Excellent administrative and IT skills, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook and experience and understanding of SIMS
Abilities / Ability to deal with sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion
Ability to work under pressure and maintain equilibrium
Ability to work on own initiative as well as with others as partners
Ability to provide timely and accurate information
Excellent organisation and with the ability to work accurately and with attention to detail
Ability to be proactive and prioritise
General / Understand and comply with procedures and legislation relating to confidentiality and Data Protection and showing a commitment to equality.
