Job Description for an Independent Learning Centre – Support Assistant

Responsible to: ILC Manager

Job Purpose: To provide support for students and staff in the Independent Learning Centre

Job Responsibilities:

1.  To provide administrative support for the ILC including but not exclusive to:

·  order and prepare all books, e-books, equipment and other resources

·  maintain associated records

·  purchase orders

·  update the ILC budget spreadsheet

·  liaising with external suppliers and with the Finance Department regarding the payment of invoices

·  generate overdue reports

·  maintain and update the library management database including uploading student data

·  cataloguing resources

·  recording leavers

·  administering library overdue items

·  taking minutes for team meetings

2.  To administer the Book Deposit Scheme.

3.  To provide help desk cover.

4.  To promote resource-based learning within the Independent Learning Centre (ILC).

5.  To assist the Independent Learning Centre Manager and ILC Co-ordinator with the day-to-day running of the Centre.

6.  To supervise, support and monitor students working in the ILC and LIP.

7.  To assist with the invigilation of examinations.

8.  To attend essential College days and events such as enrolment and Open Evening

events.

9.  To undertake any other duties which may be reasonably assigned to you by the ILC Manager or Principal from time to time.

The person appointed is expected to have:

1  A general awareness of the strategic direction of the College and an understanding of the environment in which it operates.

2  An awareness of, and responsiveness to, the needs of students in the 16-19 age range and the ability to form good relationships with them.

3  Effective communication, inter-personal and organisational skills.

4  A resourceful and pro-active disposition.

6  Excellent time management skills.

7  An awareness and understanding of the technological support for resource based learning. The ability to use computers and computerised management systems and other technologies.

8  An ability to work constructively in professional partnership with teaching staff and establish good rapport with a range of client groups.

9  An awareness of independent learning skills and techniques.

10  Able to work as part of a team and on your own initiative.

11  Evidence of commitment to ongoing personal development and training.

12  A willingness to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the service.

13  The ability to use initiative, stay positive, and meet deadlines even when working under pressure.
