JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Events Manager

Responsible to: Senior Events Manager

Responsible for:Events Assistants

Purpose: To maximise net income and manage and implement the challenge events strategy in line with the overall Events Fundraising strategy and Anthony Nolan brand by:

  • Line managing Events Assistants to ensure creation and implementation of effective administrative processes are in place for participant recruitment, support and income tracking
  • Planning and implementing a strategic portfolio of successful, cost effective events for the events team
  • Identifying and assessing the best challenge events fundraising opportunities for Anthony Nolan
  • Developing new initiatives, materials and communication tools
  • Maximising income generation from challenge events; achieving agreed objectives, including agreed income, expenditure and participation levels
  • Cross selling other fundraising activities and donor recruitment as appropriate
  • Supporting the events team into a donor centric, high performing team focussed on building long term supporter journeys with our supporters

Responsibilities:

  1. Planning
  • Actively input into overall events team strategy, working with the Senior Events Manager on key opportunities and priorities
  • To set and monitor key performance objectives on an ongoing basis against this plan, and produce recommendations for corrective action as appropriate
  • Plan and co-ordinate challenge events in order to implement effective recruitment, and long term retention plans
  • Monitor, analyse and evaluate events audiences including identifying key events participant segments, and produce marketing plans to recruit, retain and develop these marketing segments to maximise income
  • Maintain excellent knowledge of the fundraising events market including participant motivations, needs, competitor monitoring
  • Evaluate current administrative and system processes, and suggest and implement ways to improve efficiency across the team
  1. Events
  • Prepare detailed strategic event plans for profitable events agreed with the Senior Events Manager. To include preparing income, expenditure and net income projections; participant number and average sponsorship projections; inputting to marketing plans; conducting risk assessments; negotiating with suppliers; and complying with legal and insurance requirements
  • Deliver the event and supporter journey to build pro-active, positive relationships with participants to secure increased and repeat support from them
  • Work collaboratively with other internal teams
  • Maintain and provide accurate financial records of all activities
  • Review and evaluate the performance of events on an on-going basis and plan future activities accordingly, including suppliers and sponsorship opportunities as appropriate
  • Develop and maintain existing relationships and cultivate new ones as appropriate and increase long term cost effective fundraising opportunities where possible
  1. Supporter Care
  • Have a thorough overview of the events programme with sufficient knowledge so as to show initiative in dealing with enquiries from existing and potential participants (as well as general enquiries)
  • Respond to enquiries to the events team in a professional manner, ensuring all relevant information is timely and accurately entered and maintained on the Anthony Nolan database in conjunction with Anthony Nolan procedures and the Data Protection Act
  • Support event participants with their training and fundraising to ensure they meet the minimum requirements for their particular event
  • Play a key role in trials for new supporter retention journeys, the processes involved and the materials needed
  • Work to develop long lasting relationships with Anthony Nolan supporters
  1. Cross selling activities
  • Cross sell other events and other fundraising activities as and when appropriate
  • Support other fundraising initiatives as required
  • Cross sell opportunities for donor recruitment at events as agreed with the national Donor Recruitment team
  • Ensure the key fundraising messages are accurately reflected in communications developed both inside and outside of Fundraising
  1. Ambassadorial role
  • Help grow Anthony Nolan’s brand and profile, developed in conjunction with the national media team, the marketing and communications team and the Anthony Nolan brand guidelines
  • Proactively network with other charity representatives to glean competitor analysis and share best practice
  • Undertake public speaking engagements as required
  1. Other general duties
  • Adhere to all agreed Supporter Services processes on the banking and recording of income
  • Manage the work of the events assistants in line with overall objectives
  • Maintain accurate records and adhere to the fundraising Database protocols
  • Attend and contribute positively to training, team meetings and fundraising team meetings
  • Undertake any other activities reasonably requested in line with responsibilities/post by line manager and/or other senior Anthony Nolan management

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The following attributes are considered essential for the job:

  1. Track record of successfully organising and delivering fundraising challenge events, meeting income, expenditure and net income targets and adhering to all appropriate legal and organisational policies
  2. Track record of successfully delivering running and challenge events fundraising relationships, including enabling participants to raise money and motivating and supporting them throughout their experience
  3. Experience of line managing staff
  4. Experience of implementing improvements to processes/systems to increase efficiency
  5. Ability to work within a fast moving environment, identifying and responding appropriately to changing priorities
  6. Demonstrable knowledge of best practice in events fundraising
  7. Excellent business skills to assess viability of new projects and relationships
  8. A proactive and energetic personality, flexible and enthusiastic
  9. Excellent interpersonal skills to establish, build and retain holistic relationships with a range of audiences including event participants and suppliers
  10. Excellent public speaking skills to represent the charity in a range of settings including pitches, at events and in face to face meetings
  11. Good written skills to prepare successful, marketing, retention and other team materials
  12. Drive, determination and resiliance to work on own initiative without constant support and supervision
  13. Tact, judgement and diplomacy to protect Anthony Nolan’s interests and reputation
  14. Ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues in order to collaborate successfully on projects

  16. Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as required

1.35 hour week
