Role purpose
The Development Officer willplay a key role in fundraising for Liberty, contributing across a range of channels but with particular focus on working alongside the Membership and Appeals Manager on developing our low-level and mid-level giving programmes.
Key responsibilities
Low-level and mid-level giving recruitment and retention
  • Research, plan and implement recruitment activities in order to achieve growth in Liberty’s low-level and mid-level giving programmes
  • Develop effective donor retention strategies to minimise the number of donors that lapse or cancel
  • Monitor and analyse the success and cost effectiveness of all recruitment activities and apply lessons learned to future plans
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external parties on the design, production, distribution and placement of direct marketing materials
  • Use the Raiser’s Edge database to maximise effectiveness and performance of all fundraising activities and ensure compliance with data protection
  • Liaise with Liberty staff in other teams to maximise opportunities for low-level giving promotion
Supporter Development
  • Work with the Membership & Appeals Manager to develop a structured programme of regular communications with members and supporters
  • Lead on a programme of appeals to members and supporters with customised asks to maximise income
  • Promote legacy giving to members and supporters through the newsletter, website and other channels
  • Produce copy for the Liberty newsletter and other supporter and membership communications as required
General responsibilities
  • Provide income reports to the Director of Development when required
  • Monitor and communicate progress of supporter rates and income against targets
  • Oversee the work of any staff or volunteers assisting with any of the above and ensure that all administrative procedures are followed
  • Contribute to the overall work of the Development Team to ensure objectives are achieved
  • Perform other duties as required

Personal Specification / Essential / Desirable
Technical expertise & qualifications: / Degree or equivalent professional qualification / 
Experience & Knowledge: / Minimum of two years’ experience raising funds from individuals / 
Sound knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or similar database, with the ability to run queries and produce income reports / 
Experience of using a range of direct marketing techniques to recruit and retain supporters and to build excellent supporter relationships / 
Experience of planning, managing and evaluating successful marketing communications / 
Knowledge of how to utilise data held on relational database in pursuit of improved fundraising performance / 
A proven track record of delivery against targets within defined timescales / 
Understanding of Liberty’s broad campaigning objectives / 
Good understanding of laws affecting fundraising and data protection / 
Experience of working for a membership organisation / 
Knowledge of legacy marketing / 

At the end of the interview candidates will also have an opportunity to ask questions about the job, conditions of service, etc.

[CW2]Nicke – not sure how easy this is to do. But if you have to select an option then select full time maybe as probably more attractive? But maybe look at costs for advertising on a specialist part time job forum? E.g. Timewise jobs?
