Background: Caldera is a catalyst for the transformation of underserved youth through innovative, year-round art and environmental programs. Our programs provide youth with long-term mentoring, beginning at age eleven and continuing every week, through young adulthood. We are a multidisciplinary arts organization committed to fostering creativity and promoting a deeper appreciation of the environment.

Position Title: Education Mentor

Supervisor: Education Director

Compensation: DOE, plus room & board in a stunning location during camp

Dates:

Ideally be able to start immediately on 37.5 hours/week schedule with additional full-time residence required during camp sessions below:

Mandatory training for new staff: July 10- 13 at Camp Caldera

Immersion I - July 16- 26

Immersion II- July 29- August 6

Discovery - August 10- 19

Education Mentor: This position provides year-round direct support to middle schoolsserved by Caldera during the school day, after school, on weekends and during the summer. The ideal candidate for this position will be a professional, skilled youth-worker with the ability to engage diverse groups and represent Caldera in the communities we serve in Portland.Applicant must have experience working in a school setting and be available to work at camp sessions this summer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Mentoring

  • Facilitate weekly mentoring sessions in 5 partner schools
  • Reside at Caldera’s summer camps and related staff training, providing workshops as scheduled
  • Participate in all youth events and retreats including Fall and Spring Weekend Leadership Retreats
  • Act as ambassador for Caldera in all school communities; make presentations as needed
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and retreats
  • Maintain accurate student records and submit monthly reports
  • Support youth events/retreats by making reminder calls and providing transportation as necessary
  • Will help implement and plan art projects and curriculum for weekly mentoring sessions

Collaboration with High School Artist Mentor:

  • Assist in high school activities on Saturdays and/or Sundays
  • Assist in support to high school students

Administrative Requirements:

  • Submit monthly activity report and anecdotal observations
  • Track attendance
  • Submit monthly approved reimbursement requests
  • Must maintain a valid driver license, personal auto liability insurance coverage, if applicable, and a driving record permitting coverage under the agency auto liability policy
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Comply with Caldera policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook

Salary and Benefits:

This is a salaried position that begins immediatelyand includes 95% employer paid medical, dental and vision benefits and fully paid life insurance, ad&d insurance and short/long term disability.In addition to paid PTObased on the schools served calendars and the summer camp calendar.
