BACKGROUND TO FITZROVIA YOUTH IN ACTION

Fitzrovia Youth in Action (FYA) is central London’s leading youth action charity that empowers children and young people to overcome the barriers they face, fulfil their potential and create positive change in their local community.

FYA was launched in 1997 and over the last 17 years, the charity has grown into an organisation that offers children and young people a broad range of youth-led volunteering activities and employability support.

To meet this need, FYA has developed a comprehensive user journey that includes:

  • Engaging young people: we initially engage with children and young people through healthy living drop-ins and a football training programme.
  • Youth-led volunteering: having developed a good relationship, these same children and young people take part in peer education, media activities and community events.
  • Employability: when they have finished school and are looking for work, we support them in this process by offering mentoring, work experience and employability workshops.

FYA has a small staff team consisting of six full time staff and a number of part time and sessional staff members.

PURPOSE OF THE POST

This exciting new role will optimise existing income generating initiatives and scope and develop new ones to contribute to the long term sustainability of FYA.

FYA has recently taken over the management of The Warren sports pitch from Camden Council and, thanks to funding secured from a local business, resurfaced the play area with ‘3G’ astroturf, creating the only astro sports pitch in W1. The income generated from hiring out the pitch will provide the charity with a source of sustainable income, as well as provide young people with free access to the highest standard of playing surfaces at dedicated times each day.

A key purpose of the role of the Business Development Manager will be to explore different ways to maximise income for the charity through the pitch, including attracting more bookings during the daytime.

We also expect the Business Development Manager to identify and develop additional income generating initiatives for the charity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop and implement our current marketing plan for The Warren pitch to generate and maximise a sustainable income stream to help secure the future of FYA
  2. To develop a model for sustainably managing the running of the Warren pitch.
  3. Develop the booking system for the Warren pitch and help with the management of the facility.
  4. Identify and develop additional sustainable income generation initiatives for the charity
  5. To help raise the profile of FYA and work alongside the Director and Mentoring Programme Manager in developing relationships with local businesses and employees
  6. Produce and deliver high quality, creative bespoke presentations and proposals when required
  7. To assist in the delivery of wider activities of the charity when required and undertake other duties as reasonably requested by the Director. For example, assisting with the FYA annual street party and other community events.
