  1. On Campus accommodation- provided by the college, mostly on campus. Cost varies depending on the standard i.e ensuite/shared bathroom/shared room/single room/double room/catered accommodation. €3,000-€6,300 payable in 2/3 instalments (approx €80-170 per week)
  2. Digs -lodging with a family usually from Sunday evening until Friday. Includes bills and can also include meals. (approx € 100-180 per week)you can search for digs available close to each college
  3. Houses/Flat Shares- renting a room in a house or obtaining a lease, with friends, for a house or an apartmentshows private accommodation near each 3rd level institution
  4. Student Complexes-designated apartment complexes for students from any college in the area, provided by private landlords

Contact College Accommodation office as soon as possible. They willprovide you with information of all types of accommodation available in the above categories. Early application will help to avoid students paying more than they intended or possibly living some distance from the college.

The college websites provide excellent information on both on campus and off campus accommodation – this may be accessed by entering the main website and clicking on student services.

UCD has around 3,000 student accommodation places with around 1,135 places assigned for 1st year students. UCD Residences provides accommodation for First Year CAO students across all of its locations consisting of Self-Catering Apartments, Halls of Residences, and a new complex of Catered Accommodation which includes meals in the price. Specially adapted facilities are provided for students with disabilities.

In 2015 the following process applied. Applications Step 1-19thJunestudents to book a priority place on the waiting list(no longer on a first come basis)in order to put your name on the waiting list you must have selected a course in UCD on your CAO formStep 2 -Waiting list is sorted in July by random selection. Should they receive an offer in the first round in August accept your offer on the first day before 5pm the better your chances. Once you have accepted your CAO offer and the CAO have notified UCD of your acceptance UCD residences will send successful applicants from ranked waiting list an email (may take 2-3 days )telling you to go online and book your room.You will have a window of 24 hours to accept and pay deposit to book the room.Do ASAP for wider selection of rooms. The waiting list (2000) will be automated and will immediately offer rooms that come available to the next in the list. There will be a window in which students will be able to log on (24 hours), accept their offer and choose their room BE READY need to act fast! If not successful in getting a campus accommodation place, for assistance with sourcing off campus accommodation please visit must register to use this service Student’s Union advises digs for First years as shared accommodation is very difficult to find and can be expensive. The accommodation office will assist students in finding suitable housing and provides a regularly updated list, as well as a useful booklet on your rights etc. entitled "A place to stay".

TRINITY COLLEGE DUBLIN

All on-campus accommodation is reserved for final year students. However TCD accommodate first year students in Trinity Hall, Dartry Road, Rathmines(01-4971772- ), around two miles from the city centre which has around 1000 places. Approx cost is €4,200-5,500+ utilities in 3 separate payments. Accommodation and prices can be viewed on web –site.

Students must apply online after they accept the CAO offer of a place in college and received their TCD ID Number. (Fee of €15 to apply). Places are very limited. Prompt application is necessary, application form must be completed carefully as it is used to rank applicants suitability for a room offer .

Students must pay €250 within 14 days of the offer of a room to secure.

DUBLIN CITY UNIVERSITY

D.C.U. has places for 535 First Year students attending DCU or its linked colleges St Pats Drumcondra and Mater Dei Inst of Ed. Campus Residences Limited on line booking System from 29th Feb up to midnight day before CAO results –no booking deposit required.CAO number required. When CAO results are issued rooms are allocated by lottery unless you have obtained 570+ pointswill definitely get a room if they applied before deadline. Approx cost €4172-4420 in 2 instalments in August & Jan.Damage Deposit (€300) and Utilities(€450) are extra.10 rooms areavailable for subsidised accommodation through the DCU Access Scheme which is means tested.

D.I.T. has an accommodation office for all 6 colleges which will provide information throughout the year Although there is no on-campus accommodation provided as yet until Grangegorman Campus is completebut 600 bed spaces are block booked for DIT students in several city centre locations includingHerberton Student Residence( phone 01-6768788 and Griffith Hall Residences on the South Circular Rd . This complex has 165 apartments with shared and single rooms available. This central location is ideal for DIT students on any DIT campus. Phone 01 4163320 or . Also Gateway Student Village , Ballymun Rd, Dublin 9 which is within reach of Bolton St, Cathal Brugha and Mountjoy Sq campuses.

NUI MAYNOOTH

A)Booking a Room (first come first served): We will open for bookings on 5th May 2015 on a first come first served basis. You will be able to state your preference for a room type and give details of any sharing preferences you may have with friends or other requirements such as mobility access etc. Try to offer you preferences you request and full details of what is offered will be emailed to you before you are asked to pay a deposit. The booking form will open as a link on our web pages on 5th May from 12 midday and it is likely that all rooms will be booked in a short time Appox room costs €4,074-4,910 single €2,630-4,074 (twin). This doesn't include deposit or utilities.
All room offers will be made by the end of May 2015. You will receive an email giving you the full details of your room offer and you will be given access to your online accommodation account (TCAS Account). You will be asked to pay online the first half of your deposit ( €250) which will be refundable if you do not get an academic place offer. Refunds will be made the first week of October 2015. The second part of the deposit of not more than €250 will be payable by 22nd August and your first semester rent is payable by 29th August 2015. Special categories exist for

Sports Scholars (check with the Sports co-ordinator of your sport)

B)Applying for a Lottery Room (random selection): Once all the rooms are booked we will close the booking phase and open for applications for the lottery. Lottery rooms will be those that have been cancelled from the booking phase and therefore the number available will be limited. Applications for the lottery will remain open until August 19th at 3pm. The lottery will take place on the morning of the 20th August and the results published on the Accommodation Office web site by 12 noon that day or as soon thereafter as possible. The CAO numbers of the students randomly selected will be listed in numerical order according to the quantity of rooms that are available on that day. Once published each lottery offer will be emailed within a week of the lottery and you will be given full details of the room offered and the payments due.

At the CAO offers stage if you have obtained over 500points /sports scholars, you will automatically contacted and offered a room on campus. The usual rent still applies.

All students who apply via the CAO and include Maynooth University as one of their choices can choose to have access to our software from 1st July 2015.

How can I access this website?

To create your account, you will be asked for your CAO number and to enter the email address used on your CAO application. Only one account access can be activated for your CAO number. We will approve your use of the website, once we have confirmed that you have listed Maynooth University on your CAO application and that your CAO number and email address match those on file with the CAO. Approval will take 3-5 days. No automatic Access

In August on the day we receive the CAO 1st round offers, we will email those students offered an academic place with their log in details for this website. You should check the email address on your CAO application for the details after 2 pm.

N.C.A.D.

NCAD has no student residences & does not have an accommodations service. The Students Union has a database of accommodation available. This is sent to all first years. It can arrange for students to join together for house shares. It also issues guidelines when flat hunting.

Student’s Union has a register of shared housing and digs available.First years are advised to go for the digs option.

UCC has places for 1000 students in its on-campus residences. Castlewhite and Victoria Lodge 9 (Alcohol Free) house First Year students. As places are allocated in order of application on a first come - first served basis, early application is advisable. Booking will open in April 2015for next year.Where possible 1st yrs are placed together.All accommodation is available to view from above web site and bookings can be made on line. Booking Deposit of €250- €50 of which is non-refundable if you do not get a place in UCC.Student mustcancel by in writing by e-mail/letter Approx cost is €3500-6000 paid in 3 installmentsor €108-119 per week based on 39 week term

There are many privately owned apartment complexes. A list of these is available on the UCC accommodation web-site.All are between 10 –30 minutes walk form the college.

The University of Limerick has 5 student residences to accommodate 2,500 students, Plassey Village with 424 places, the Kilmurray (525), Dromroe (457), Thomond(500), Cappavilla(500),Village developments.

1000 places are reserved for 1st yr students. Students can nominate a friend to live with.View and apply on line from February next When you apply online, you will be required to pay a €250.00 application fee.

Costs approx €3640-5070.(€93-130 per week ) First year applications are recorded in date order and places are allocated in order of application. A deposit of €250 required which is returned ( €50 admin charge) if do not to get CAO place in UL or not allocated a room. You mustcancel your booking within 3 days of receipt of your CAO offer or you forfeit the full deposit Places for first years are granted on a first come first served basis. Early application is advisable.

There university also has an office that deals with Off-campus accommodation (digs and private rented accommodation. . 4 privately run student complexes also are nearby to the campus. There are 9 privately run student’s complexes in Galway and information on these is available on the NUI G website. 20% of their places are reserved for 1st years. View all online..Application forms are available directly from each residence.A provisional booking deposit €250 is required. Some of the deposit (less €100 is returned if student fails to get a place but must cancel in writing within 3 working days.

I. T.CARLOW

There is no on-campus accommodation in I.T.Carlow . However there are privately run student complexes available. Carraig Abhainn is Carlow's first purpose built student village, conveniently located opposite the gates of Carlow Institute of Technology. Carraig Abhainn is a low rise, high quality, privately owned development comprising of 38 fully fitted self catering apartments. Thirty five of the apartments cater for 4 people with two single rooms and one twin room with ensuite bathroom. A further three apartments have a bedroom with ensuite facilities specially designed for students with disabilities.Applications for the academic year are only accepted from June onwards.

There is an accommodation officer to facilitate students seeking accommodation. First years who have accepted their college place at I.TCarlow are sent details of accommodations website where there is a list of options available. Purpose built student accommodation costs approx. €75-90 per week, digs costs approx €100-120, shared house €75-90 per week.

The Accommodation Service at WIT provide a comprehensive lodging service which includes lists of digs and they manage 3 private student complexes in the city (516 bed places)On line application for accommodation opens in Feb/March.

Students have a choice of two locations with WIT Campus Accommodation;

College Fields, located on the Cork Road Campus.Manor Village, two minutes walk from College Street Campus.

Roncalli House, is situated directly adjacent to the Main Campus of Waterford Institute of Technology.

Access these complexes on the WIT website .Application forms available from Feb Students must apply on-line. €400 deposit will reserve a place which is refundable (less €100 )up to 3 days after CAOoffer notice .Students forfeit full deposit if fail to notify WIT accommodation service within required time frame.

Approx costs /€3300/ €87 per week in 2 instalments. Rent can be paid on a monthly basis subject to conditions. There is a reduced cost€3,230 /€85 per week if accommodation is booked before a certain date in June.

WIT provided a useful Accommodation Guide with a list of other student accommodation which is available from the Accommodations Office or . During registration, an accommodation information point will be set up to assist students.

WORDS OF ADVICE FROM THE COLLEGES

  1. Start looking early – go down to the Accommodations Office as soon as you get Leaving Cert results / you accept the offer.
  2. Location is very important .Get as near to the college as possible or on a direct transport link . Make sure it is a safe area.
  3. Check the updated approved Register of accommodation and regularly check the Accommodation Office’s notice board /website
  4. Do not book anything over the phone. Go and see it for yourself Make an appointment, bring parents to look over the accommodation
  5. Have a good look around, check appliances, in digs ask for a list of meals
  6. Don’t panic and take the first place you see.
