Lesson Plans For:August 14-18Lab Safety, Lab Report, Microscope

Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday
Standard / SPI:0707.Inq. 1.Design a simple experimental proccedure with an identified control and approriate variables. / SPI:0707.Inq.2 Select tools and procedures needed to conduct a moderately complex experiment. / SPI:0707.Inq.2 Select tools and procedures needed to conduct a moderately complex experiment. / SPI:0707.Inq.2 Select tools and procedures needed to conduct a moderately complex experiment.
Learning Goal / EQ: How do we write a lab report using the scientific method?
What are control and variables? What lab equipment will I use this year?
Vocabulary: hypothesis, infer, controlled experiment, variable, independent variable, dependent variable, const ant. / E.Q. What are control and variables? What lab equipment will I use this year? / E.Q. How can I use the compound microscope with at least 90% accuracy and make my own slide using various materials? / E. Q: Do I know microscopes with 90% accuracy and 9 out of 10 Lab Safety rules. / E.Q: What do I need to know about the Solar Eclipse on Aug. 21st?
Activator / 1.) The teacher will ask students what they know about controls and variables. Students will complete a KWL on control and variables. Students will write what Know about contols and variables, what they want to know. Then at the end of the lesson what they learned.
Students will also name the six steps of the scientific method.
(Students write all of this down when they enter the room) It is posted on the board. / 1.) Student will create a foldable over Variables / 1)What is it? Students will try to identify 3 slides.
  • Horse hair
  • Fly
  • blood
/ 1)Students will study with a partner for five minutes. / 1) Student will complete Solar Eclipse Activities.
Teaching Strategy /
  1. Students will build a foldable over the Scientific Method.
  2. Students will watch a BrainPOP over Scientific Method.
/
  1. Students will read science scenarios and pick out the independent variable, the control, and the dependent variable.
/ 1. Students will complete a lab to practice variables and the Scientific Method.
2. The teacher will model her expectations of what goes into a lab report. Students will write the lab report as they conduct the experiment.
When finished students will grade themselves with a the lab rubric. / 1)Students will take a summative assessment over Scientific Method and Lab Safety.
Summarizer / Students will complete the KWL chart over what they have learned about control and variables.
Students will also complete the conclusion question over the lab getting 3 out of 4 questions correct. / Students will tell their partner the parts of the scientific method with 80% accuracy. / Students will answer 2 out of 3 conclusion questions correctly.
