New Message Boards

You’ve probably noticed by now that there are newly installed message boards near the mailboxes. The purpose of this is to communicate news and events, such as upcoming board meetings, community get togethers, services offered, lost pets, and other items you’d like to communicate to your neighbors.

If you are interested in posting a notice, please contact JD Richardson at for approval. Please include a soft copy of your notice so that this can be reviewed. You should receive a response within 48 hours.

Once you receive notice approving your request to post a notice, a board member will place your notice in the message board. The maximum time allowed to post a notice is 30 days.

We have implemented this as many of you have asked for an aesthetically pleasing message board to communicate various activities and events going on in the neighborhood. Since these boards have now been installed, any other flyers or notices taped to the mailboxes will be removed.

MOVING TO ONLINE NEWSLETTERS: SAVING MONEY AND TREES

Over the past several months, the HOA Board has continued to look for avenues to reduce costs. One area is in printing and mailing – we average around $400/month for our community. To reduce this cost, the Board has decided to move to producing electronic newsletters.

That means instead of receiving this newsletter with your statement, you will be able to view this online from the Torrey Woods website. Most of you have visited this site already, which can be found at the bottom of this newsletter. We will implement this change with the January 2007 newsletter.

If you wish to continue receiving a hard copy of the newsletter, a charge of $5.00 per month will be added to your monthly statement. Please inform JD Richardson at if you wish to continue receiving a hard copy of the newsletter.

Thanks to the Herz family for hosting this year’s Halloween Party for children. Everyone had a great time, hunting for treasures and making crafts! Everyone looked scary in their costumes!

HOLIDAY PARTY COMING SOON!

Put on your party best and join your neighbors at the Annual Holiday Party, which will be held at Bill and Sheila Caldarelli’s home at 4471 Rosecliff Place on Saturday, December 9 at 7 pm. Please bring a bottle of wine to share and your own wine glass.

Some neighbors will be bringing appetizers and desserts. If you’re interested in helping out the Events Committee with this event, please contact Renee Dierking at .

The following Sunday, December 17, will be the Children’s Holiday Party from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, and will be held at Scott and Vickie Wooden’s home at 4459 Philbrook Square. This will be an enjoyable time for kids up to age 14, where they will be making crafts and enjoying cookies and drinks.

ROAMING COYOTES

As we all know, living in a community as close as we are to the preserve, brings both beauty as well as natural dangers.

Please read on as a neighbor (who lives in an adjoining community, not in Torrey Woods) describes an incident with coyotes, whom we must be aware of and take necessary precautions to guard against them, but at the same time, we must also recognize that they were “here first” and cannot fault them for their natural instincts.

“Dear Neighbors,

We just wanted to let you know that on September 20th, while walking our dogs, Bacchus (a boxer) and Rukkus (a yorkie) on the vacant lot next door to our home, Rukkus wandered next to the bushes and was taken by a coyote.

Unfortunately our children were there to hear his cry but thankfully it was quick and so they didn't really understand what happened. The next day was our daughter, Cassidy's, 11th birthday.

Being heartbroken, we went out and got an 11-week-old Weimaraner puppy. This past Thursday, he wandered out of our yard through a gate that wasn't latched tightly at around 8:30pm. We arrived home about 15 minutes later to find him gone. We searched the streets and golf course with the help of our wonderful neighbors for over an hour but did not find him.

Our neighbors unfortunately heard the dogs barking and then the coyotes right around the time he got out and since has hasn't been found we are assuming the worst. We are absolutely devastated at the loss of our sweet little dogs.

We wanted to share this information with you to emphasize the importance of keeping your pets on leashes and making sure that your yards are secure for them. We hope that no one else in our community will have to experience the loss of a pet due to the coyotes.

My husband and I hear the awful cries of the coyotes as they are hunting so close to our house and it makes our skin crawl. It's getting scary though as it seems that now they are preying on our pets for a food source.

Does anyone have any knowledge of an organization that could help our community do something about the coyotes? A friend suggested that I contact the Fish and Game Department so I will do that this week.

Regards,

Marcia and Rick Turek”

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving this year. We have much to be thankful for: this wonderful community, great neighbors, good friends. Here’s to another year of GOOD LIVING.
