Please see Mrs. Nelson to discuss audition schedule conflicts.

The audition will consist of a solo piece chosen by the student and a sight reading piece that is chosen by Mrs. Nelson. The solo piece can be a song or exercise out of a lesson book or a solo that demonstrates their highest playing ability. Students that come to the audition without a written solo will not be eligible to audition. The sight reading piece will be given to the auditioning student by Mrs. Nelson. This will be a piece of music they have never seen before. Each student will have time to study the piece and play it to the best of their ability at the audition.

Drum set players will need to play a solo of their choice. The solo piece can be a song or exercise out of a lesson book or a solo that demonstrates their highest playing ability. The solo must be written out. Students that come to the audition without a written solo will not be eligible to audition. Drum set players will also need to demonstrate a rock beat, swing beat, and a latin beat (bossa nova). In addition to demonstrating the listed beats, students will be required to watch Mrs. Nelson conduct and follow the tempo that is given on the beat they feel most comfortable with. There will be no sight reading for drum set players.

Students will be rated on tone, rhythm, musicianship, solo piece difficulty, attitude, and their ability to read a piece of music they have never seen before. Results will be posted as soon as everyone interested has auditioned.
