Meeting on February 27th at 6:00 at the S.C. Library

Our February meeting will be on Thursday, Feb 27th at 6:00pm at the South Charleston Library. This is a change from the usual meeting day. The rest of the year will be on Tuesday. Sandra King will present a ‘hands-on’ program - drawing a face in charcoal using your fingers and hands to create proportion. All materials will be provided. Sounds like fun!

September is the official time to pay your dues!! If you have not paid your dues, please do so. When you send in your $30.00 dues, please list out your current address, phone number, and email address so we can keep the directory updated. Send to AAWV, PO Box 2361, Charleston, WV 25328.

Artistic Opportunities:

Allied Artists 2014 Juried Show prospectus is ready. The deadline is March 30th. Don’t wait till the last minute!! The exhibit will be at the Huntington Museum of Art from June 14 to July 13. The awards reception will be June 29th 1:00-300pm.

Up coming Spring Allied Artist Workshop with Author Evans in Acrylic - April 25-26 at Kanawha Presbyterian Church - Friday, April 25th, 5:00pm to 9:00pm and Saturday, April 26, 9:00am to 4:00pm. Registration with payment in full is required – cost is $50.00 for members and $65.00 for non members

The FestivALL Charleston 2014 Capitol Street Art Fair is now open for applications. The fair runs for two days, Saturday, June 28 (10am - 6pm) and Sunday, June 29 (11am - 5pm). If you are an artist who wants to display and sell your work at next year's fair, please go to their website to find the application packet including an introductory letter and basic information about the fair along with the application form. The early deadline for applications with a substantial price break if your application is accepted is February 15 (postmark). The final deadline for applications is March 15 (postmark).

The Berkeley Arts Council has announced that the Fourth Annual Art and Earth Juried Art Exhibit will open April 10, 2014 in the special exhibit gallery space at the Berkeley Art Works, 116 North Queen Street in Martinsburg. The exhibit will be on display through May 4, 2014. Entries will be accepted through February 18, 2014. The West Virginia Division of Culture and History and the West Virginia Commission on the Arts are seeking nominations for the 2014 Governor’s Arts Awards, which honor exceptional artists and arts organizations that have made significant contributions to the state’s culture. All West Virginians are encouraged to nominate individual artists, organizations and communities in five categories: Arts in Education Award, Distinguished Service Award to the Arts, Leadership in the Arts Award, Artist of the Year Award, Governor’s Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement. The Paintbrush Studio on Pennsylvania Ave in Charlestonhas two painting classes starting in February. On Feb. 10th, Arthur Evans will be teaching a class in painting (acrylic and oils) every Monday evening from 5:00 to 9:30.. The class will all be working on the same painting and will be perfect for beginners or intermediate painters or anyone who just wants to learn more! The Knights of Columbus Council 9483 will host their 26th Annual Mardi Gras Celebration and Charity Auction on Saturday, March 1st, 2014. They are asking for donations for the auction. If you are interested, contact Daniel Bonnett at .

Cross Lanes YMCA sponsors a silent auction that provides funds to support free art lessons for children ages 3 years to 5th grade. They have requested that we ask our members to donate a painting. Deborah Herndon's “Three Sails, Collioure” juried into the “Space & Form National Exhibit” (March) at the Fredericksburg Center for Creative Arts. “Blue Shutters/Red Leaves” juried into the “February Regional Exhibit” at the same venue. Also, her artworks "Old Boat, Annecy” and “White Handrail, Collioure” were accepted in Our Material World Exhibit at Tamarack which is open from Jan 26 to March 23. Her photographs "Link's Tripod & Mid-Mod" and "Arrivals and Departures by Train" were chosen by the O. Winston Link Museum of Photography in Roanoke, Virginia to celebrate their Tenth Anniversary on Jan. 25, 2014.

Linda Stonestreet's painting "Ghostly Galleon" was also accepted into the Tamarack exhibit.

Linda Conner was juried into the W V Juried Exhibition with an acrylic painting titled WV 150.

Sharon Harms’ painting "A Tiger Convergence" won an award of excellence in the 2013 Juried Exhibit. It is now a part of the WV Permanent Collection.
