Overview / Description of the Scope of this Project
1 Client Network Requirements:- Identify stakeholders. (List them and their areas of concern.)
- List client requirements. (Confirmed requirements plus needs of the project.)
- Consider compatibility with current applications software and operating systems.
- Contact vendors to obtain specifications and availability of all identified components.
- Evaluate the different hardware offerings from vendors. Evaluations attached.
- Review of IT Standards and Procedures. (What areas does this project touch?)
- Check purchasing procedures, licensing requirements and budget.
- Organise purchase order(s).
2 Site Preparation
- Site survey completed. (List attached documents)
- Summarise the Industry standards that the network will adhere to.
- Develop a checklist to ensure that cables and power are installed in accordance with appropriate standard.
- Identify appropriate cable installers and electricians to perform any additions required.
- Basic equipment specification.
- List appropriate times that installers may be allowed to work on installation project to minimise disruption to the client.
- Summarise organisational standards and OH & S standards that need to be adhered to.
3 Install Hardware
- Document the installation procedures as necessary for the server.
- Document the installation procedures as necessary for the workstations.
- Document the installation procedures as necessary for additional network equipment.
- Install additional network equipment.
- Install any server additions.
- Install any workstations additions.
- Document problems encountered for future reference and trouble shooting
4 Configuration and testing.
- Summarise the standards that need to be adhered to when configuring the network especially in the areas of:
- Naming conventions
- Addressing
- Formats
- Security
- Document the configuration changes necessary for the server, workstations and networking equipment. Detail the configuration options such as the use of Domain controllers, DNS and Directory Servers, addressing, etc.
- Configure the additional network hardware as necessary.
- Configure server as necessary to work with the new network hardware.
- Configure existing workstations as necessary to work with the new network hardware and server configurations.
- Document the network test plan to ensure that all functionality and components are tested.
- Test existing workstations and server to confirm correct functionality.
- Configure new workstations to operate with the network system.
- Document the test process findings and the results of correcting and retesting any problems or issues discovered.
- Document problems encountered for future reference and trouble shooting
5 Provide Instruction
- Determine the client’s instructional needs. Attach training plans for individuals and groups.
- Provide one-to-one or group training as necessary.
- Obtain client evaluation and feedback for all instruction or training given. Attach sample evaluation and feedback tool.
