Attendance:

All students are expected to be to class everyday to receive quality instruction and

full understanding of reading skills.

Tardiness:

All students are expected to arrive in class before the tardy bell sounds.

Numerous tardies will result in a referral.

Class Participation:

All students are encouraged to participate in class discussions. If students are to learn to apply, analyze, and synthesize information, they need to be active in

class.

Missed Exams/Missed Assignments:

All missed exams and missed assignments must be made up within five days of

the absence. It is the student’s responsibility to ask for these assignments. I will

not ask you to complete any missed assignments.

Extra Credit:

Extra credit assignments will be given throughout each nine weeks. Students

should ensure that they complete all assignments; for they will not know which

one I will count as extra credit.

Academic Dishonesty:

While there will be numerous occasions that students will be allowed to work

together, they are still encouraged to use their own reasoning and thoughts in

their final product. Any students caught cheating will receive a grade of a zero.

Grading:

Your grade for this course will be comprised of four areas:

rbook Each workshop will be graded. The more correct answers you

have the better your grade will be.

You also will receive a grade on the Workshop Wrap-up. This is

a test at the end of the workshop which tests your knowledge of

the skill you learned.

Paperback/Audio booksEach student is expected to read a set number

of paperback and audio books per nine weeks.

These books could be chosen by the student or

the instructor. Students are responsible for

reading the book and completing a skills

worksheet followed by a computer-based test.

These assignments will be averaged to make

one or two grades in the grade book.

ComputerStudents are enrolled in the READ180 program on the

computer. After students finish an assignment, the computer

assigns a grade.

FCAT PracticeVarious FCAT practices will be given throughout each

nine weeks.

Read180 Program Description:

This reading program was designed to enhance reading comprehension for

struggling readers. It is a ninety-minute course where students rotate throughout

the period to different centers in three groups with no more than seven people.

20 minutesThe first twenty minutes are spent in whole group where the

the students actively participates in reading newspaper and

magazine articles followed by a science or social studies

reading. Next, they take a Word Challenge. This is where

they prove that they have learned the target words from the

workshop. After that, they write. In this section, students

learn to write expository, persuasive, narrative, and literature

responses. The Functional Literacy section is next followed

by the Workshop Wrap-Up.rbook with whole class

20 minutesStudents will spend this time reading paperback or audio

books. They are responsible for completing a reading log

each day. Upon completing the book, they must finish a

chapter summary log for the book, a skills worksheet, and

take a test on the computer.Modeled or Independent

Reading with no more than six students

20 minutesStudents will use this time performing computer-based

instruction. They will read passages and answer

comprehension questions.computer

20 minutesStudents will receive small group instructions form the

instructor. These assignments will typically be an extension

10 minutesStudents will regroup as a whole and summaries what they

have learned.
