IUCN Regional Marine and Coastal Programme (MACO) for Central and West Africa

IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature is a world leader in developing knowledge and understanding for effective action for conservation of biodiversity and management of natural resources.

The IUCN Programme for Central and West Africa, PACO, seeks to recruit its Regional Marine and Coastal Programme Coordinator in charge of marine and coastal issues, including biodiversity conservation, fisheries management, integrated management and governance of coastal areas, adaptation to climate change and disasters risks reduction.

The MACO Coordinator will serve as both a senior member of the Regional Programme Team that delivers the technical programme of IUCN in Central and West Africa and the IUCN global Marine Programme team that helps set strategic direction and define priorities for IUCN’s broader engagement on Marine and Coastal issues.

The MACO Coordinator is taking the lead role in the development of the Regional Marine Programme. He/she will develop, resource, and manage IUCN’s Marine programme activities in the region in close collaboration with other relevant IUCN programmes, Members, Commissions and partners.

REQUIREMENTS

-  Candidates should possess an advanced degree in natural or social science linked to marine and coastal conservation, and at least 10 years of relevant work experience on issues related to marine and coastal conservation in Africa

-  Exposure to and knowledge of major marine and coastal conservation issues, both policy and field related

-  Strong experience with project and programme development and management, lead and inspire multicultural and multidisciplinary teams

-  Demonstrated fundraising, budgeting and programme planning ability

-  Demonstrated outstanding skills in network development and ability to achieve results through networking in cross-cultural situations

-  Proven writing ability

-  Demonstrated spoken and written fluency in French and English

-  Advanced computer processing skills

DUTY STATION: Dakar, Senegal, with frequent travel across Central and West Africa.
