ITS ALL-NEW FOR ALFA ROMEO AT THE MELBOURNE MOTOR SHOW
Alfa Romeo arrives at the 2004 Melbourne International Motor Show (27 February – 8 March 2004) with a range of high performance sedans, hatches and sports cars that have changed almost entirely since the 2003 Melbourne Motor Show.
The performance star is the Alfa Romeo 147 GTA, the most powerful of the “Hyper Hatches”, a new breed of small cars that combine effortlessly shattering performance from a large capacity engine – in Alfa Romeo’s case the most powerful version of its legendary V6 engine in 3.2 litre 184 kW form – in a compact, easily useable hatch back. Alfa Romeo adds to this formula the award winning style of the Alfa 147, making it the true benchmark in this new class.
The Alfa Romeo 156 – like the Alfa 147, another European Car of the Year, making Alfa Romeo the only brand with two models in its range with two winners of this leading plaudit – has also changed since the last Melbourne Motor Show. Both the sedan and versatile Sportwagon have received a stylish new exterior and technical upgrades under the skin to maintain their edge in the highly competitive European sports sedan and wagon markets.
Alfa Romeo’s sports cars, the GTV and the Spider, are the very essence of Alfa Romeo with their sporting prowess, style and performance. They two have benefited from exterior changes, while under the skin two new engines are now available in the Alfa sports cars.
The 2.0 litre JTS engine is the cutting edge lean burn engine that debuted in the Alfa Romeo 156 and its 121 kW provides the Spider and GTV with a new performance edge. The Spider and GTV also gain the new 3.2 litre version of Alfa Romeo’s racetrack-bred V6 engine with its 176 kW making the Alfa Romeo GTV the fastest production Alfa Romeo of all time.
