Main Job Purpose:
To work effectively with others to present the ITF’s campaign and organisational communications output on social and digital channels.
Is responsible for coordinating the overall management of ITF social media.
To build a network of digital campaigners, know as the ‘ITF solidarity network’.
To work with the Web and Special Projects Manager to build relevant digital platforms.
Main Responsibilities
  • Works with the Web and Special Projects Manager to ensure ITF sites are up to date, appropriate and easily accessible for its users.
  • Develops and executes the digital engagement strategies and plans in tandem with the organisation’s overall communications strategy and specific campaign plans.
  • Drafts web and social media content as necessary.
  • Drafts and implements social media strategies to support ITF organisational and campaigning work.
  • Is responsible for building the ITF digital campaigners network.
  • Supports the commissioning of web suppliers, purchases software and identifies third party technical solutions.
  • Trains ITF staff to upload content on the ITF’s CMS, other platforms and channels.
  • Works with the web manager to ensure that the web functionality is effective and supports cross-organisational projects and supports the communications strategy
  • Regularly monitors, measures, evaluate and optimises all digital communications via the ITF social media channels.
  • Works with the production crew to develop graphics and imagery for digital and helps to produce short film clips for ITF channels.
  • Generates tracking reports to analyse each digital campaign’s performance against objectives with a view to continual improvement.
  • Supports the training of ITF affiliates in the use of web/digital technologies and channels.
  • Works with sections, departments and regions to develop appropriate on-line material and innovations to ensure maximum effectiveness, participation and where needed, publicity.
  • Remains up to date with new and emerging technologies in the digital media field.

  • Decide on best course of action in collaboration with “clients” or Head of Campaign and Communications to achieve identified goals/objectives.
  • Prioritise own workload, works independently, uses initiative as make solid decisions on when to raise issues/blockages/make recommendations.
  • Proactive and consistent approach to responsibilities laid out in job description.

Complexity
  • Works with communication team members and other secretariat to build and implement, in several languages, the appropriate digital strategies to achieve desired outcome.
  • Plans own workload with some guidance where relevant from web manager and head of campaign communications.
  • Ability to contextualise google analytics data and make informed recommendations to sections.
  • Solidarity actions require a speedy response, multi-tasking and clear decision making on best digital strategy to implement.
  • Might be required to draft copy, post, promote, film, take images and respond to urgent solidarity requests in one day.

Contacts
  • Builds and maintains close working relationships with ITF stakeholders (internal and external) to promote digital focus and engagement. This can involve steering and coordinating digital engagement training and social media activities with regional offices, London staff and affiliates.
  • Monitors the website and relevant social media channels to identify themes and/or issues that need attention or reaction.
  • Will be required to develop content related to digital campaigns liaising with affiliates, secretariat and others.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
Education level, qualifications or equivalent / Relevant professional qualification or similar. / Graduate.
Knowledge, experience and technical skills / Proven experience of creating, implementing and monitoring online campaigns.
Proven experience of creating, editing and managing on-line content.
Evidence of an understanding of political issues with the ability to influence others through digital campaigns.
Strong understanding of social media and website measurement and evaluation frameworks (analytics).
Strong technical understanding of website architecture and website functionalities.
Highly proficient in English (verbal and written). / Experience of working in a trade union environment or for a not for profit or organisation.
Literacy in other languages would be an asset.
Film and graphic design/image manipulation.
Personal attributes/skills / Organised approach.
Excellent time-management skills.
Good personal communication skills with cultural sensitivity.
Dynamic, trustworthy, open-minded.
Willing to travel occasionally for work.
Commitment to social justice and trade unions.
