Joy of Giving Week: TheJoy of Giving Week (JGW)is a "festival of philanthropy"which aims to bring together Indians all across the country and abroad through different acts of giving-money, time, skills or resources- spanning the corporate, NGO and government sectors, schools, colleges and the general public.Every year JGW is celebrated in the week of Gandhi Jayanti from Oct 2- Oct 8.

Anyone and everyone who can give, can participate. It’s an open platform which celebrates the act of giving. In 2011 over 1 million individuals donated during the week. Over Rs.20crores were collected in cash & kind and more than 1 million volunteers hours logged during the Joy of Giving week.

No one owns the Joy of Giving Week. The plan is for it to eventually have no owners! However, in the initial formative years, to give it a sense of shape, a group of core volunteers manage the JGW campaign, define guidelines for participation and evangelises the effort.

“It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.” - Mother Teresa

Here’s what you can do during Joy of Giving – 2012

Joy of Giving Wish Tree

Keep a JGW ‘WISH TREE’ in any such area where you will get maximum congregationeg. With corporate at their lobby / cafeteria for their employees, at bank branches, restaurants, large housing societies etc.

WISH TREEWISH TREE WITH WISHES & SMILEYS

How it works:

The JGW Wish Tree will have a variety of wishes displayed on the Tree. Depending on where you install the wish tree, i.e either the corporate, restaurants, housing societies etc - employees, customers, residents, visitors desirous of fulfilling NGO wishes may pluck the card know as wish fruit hanging from the tree and write their name, employee ID, and cell number on the reverse of the tag for corporate. In case of restaurants the customers may provide their credit card details or write a cheque immediately, for housing societies residents may write their flat nos etc.

This is how the wish looks and once fulfilled you have the smileys replacing the wish.

The more cards get picked up, the more they get replaced by JGW Smileysand fruitier the tree looks, showing how many people arecommitting to the cause.
