It is our privilege to host the Toronto Aeros 2012 USA-CANADA CUP SERIES Invitational Tournament and we would like to WELCOME all players, coaches, managers, trainers, families, CIS and NCAA school representatives and Hockey Canada representatives.
The concept behind the USA-CANADA CUP SERIES is to bring together the top American U16 and U19 teams as well as Canadian Midget AA and Intermediate AA teams in a USA versus Canada type format. This USA-CANADA SERIES provides an excellent opportunity for university coaches and scouts from the CIS and NCAA to see some of the top university eligible female hockey players go head-to-head in a weekend of high level competition. The series also runs like a Ryder Cup Series whereby points from each event are accumulated by the USA and Canadians Teams who battle for the USA-CANADA CUP SERIES Point Title. Past series events have proven very successful.
Our tournament will feature a five-game guarantee with all teams playing two games on Friday, October 12, two games on Saturday, October 13 and a final game on Sunday, October 14.
We have chosen to provide our Tournament Program in electronic format. We will have limited programs onsite and encourage you to download the document for you own use.

Tournament Format
Two divisions of four teams for Midget/U16 and two divisions of six teams for Intermediate/U19. Each team will play 4 preliminary round games. Following the preliminary games, the teams will be seeded within their division. 2 Points will be awarded for the win, 1 point for a tie, 1 point for overtime loss and 0 points for a loss.
Sunday Final Games for both divisions will be:
-USA 1st place vs Canada 1st place (Championship Game)
-USA 2nd place vs Canada 2nd place (Bronze Medal Game)
-USA 3rd place vs Canada 3rd place (5th/6th Game)
-USA 4th place vs Canada 4th place (7th/8th Game)
In Intermediate/U19 division only
-USA 5th place vs Canada 5th place (9th/10th Game)
-USA 6th place vs Canada 6th place (11th/12th Game)
Note regarding Sunday games for the Intermediate/U19 Level:
The Gold and Bronze Game teams will be as above. If teams had played each other in the round robin, they would still play each other in the medal games. For games 5th-12th, in an effort to provide the teams with the opportunity to play teams they may not have played in the round robin series, where possible, an alternate format will be followed.
Game Lengths
15-15-15 minute periods with a 3-minute warm up prior to the game. NOTE: Overtime will be played in round robin games if tied after regulation time.
Overtime
If the game is tied after regular play, a 3-minute (stop time), sudden victory period played 4 on 4 plus goalies will occur. Teams will not switch ends. If a penalty is called, the teams will play 4 on 3. If a second penalty is called against the same team, the teams will play 5 on 3 and could play 5 on 5 or 5 on 4 if penalties expire during play. If this occurs, the teams will play 5 on 5 or 5 on 4 until the next whistle then revert back to 4 on 4 or 4 on 3. NOTE: 2 points for a win in OT and 1 point for a loss in OT. If still tied after OT, both teams receive 1 point.
Final Division Standings
If there is a tie in points following the round robin games, the following tiebreakers will be used:
(1) Most wins
(2)Fewest goals allowed
(3)Goals scored minus goals against
(4)Fewest penalty minutes
(5)Earliest first goal scored
(6)Flip of a coin
Final Games
- One 30-second timeout will be permitted per team/per game
- OVERTIME – If the game is tied after regulation play, a 3-minute (stop time) sudden victory period playing 4 on 4 plus a goalie. Teams will not switch ends. - If game is still tied, a shoot out will take place. Players are to be sent to centre ice one at a time. Coaches DO NOT need to name shooters prior to game commencement. Three (3) players on each team will shoot. If still tied, then sudden victory shoot out will occur.
- Players shoot one at a time with the visiting team going first.
- The shoot out continues until a team scores and the opposing team does not.
- A Player serving a penalty at the end of the overtime period or has been ejected CANNOT participate in the shoot out. No player can take a second shot until all players (excluding goalies) have taken a shot.
Game Start Times
Please be prepared to start 15 minutes before your schedule game time.
Rink Resurfacing
- For preliminary rounds, the ice will be resurfaced after every second period played on the ice surface. Teams will be notified before their games what their game flood schedule is.
- The ice will not be resurfaced prior to overtime. Overtime will be considered as part of the preceding period.
- For games on Sunday, the ice will be resurfaced prior to the game and following the second period.
- The Tournament Committee retains the right to alter the resurfacing schedule if the need arises.
Dressing Room Keys
Room keys are available at the Pro Shop. Please leave a set a car keys with the Pro Shop in exchange for the dressing room key.
